Wife looked at catalouge, pointed to this

I was browsing through a Patek catalouge that that the Geneva boutique gave us a couple years ago and my wife said "I've never looked at that... may I?" I handed it her like you hand your 1st born to a stranger and she opened to the Grand Complications section.  She flipped a page or two and her eyes caught on one, she hesitated, then continued scanning that page and then flipped through the rest of the catalouge while holding the 5159 page with a finger.  "If you want my opinion... I mean me, personally... from an achitect's point of view... this one is the best."

I said apologetically, "That watch isn't available to us."  She said "Oh, well it's still the prettiest."  Then she handed the catalouge back to me and continued reading her book.

I never looked closely at the 5159 because I knew it was impractical for us but now that she mentioned it I've started researching forums as well as Antiquorum, Christies, Bonhams, Sothebys, PuristS Market, etc.  Somewhat disheartened, I looked at its 5059 predecessor and other PP retrograde perpetual offerings and failed to find a reference which trumped the 5159 from my point of view.  Damn!

Any 5159 owners out there care to discourage me - tell me that they acquired the 5159 and discovered it's not their cup of tea?

EDIT: Photo credits added.

Well, this is the kind of things that happens: you never looked seriously at a watch but one day, for any reason, you just consider it for a minute... and then you realise it is very nice. It happened to me with this ref. and I went to try it on. It was r...

Its one of the most beautiful Pateks I have ever laid my eyes on!! under-appreciated, I might say. I think the perfection all comes together in the RG package, IMO. The case proportions are just right and trump the 5059 on any day. For me, the kids colleg...

Mark, Abe - thanks for your kind words

Abe, it's always heartening to me when I read that other gentlemen PuristS are also faced with such choices - then reality takes over and the decision is made for you. It's fun to look, research, and luxuriate in the possibility of ownership... or even ju...

Well I guess it is more a mater of you are used to wearing your watches

Personally, I wear only one watch for a period of 1 to several months in a row (the others are in the bank). So, if I had this watch or even a Repetition Minute, I would wear it the same way as I like wearing them like an everyday watch. But if you are us...

Your wife has good taste in pateks.

This gives you clearance to buy. Why don't you. But get what sings to your heart. & tickles your funny bone. Best Geross

...and there is little else that compares to the beauty of this reference..but it has a younger brother, 5153, which ofcourse is not as as complicated as this, but offered with a black dial, the reference has immense charm for me..the central dial space w...

This PP is a nice watch for life. Apparently you've got all the mental support you need. And after that purchase, just hide such catalogues from her for a while. ;)

It's a gorgeous watch no doubt.

However, I found it to be too small for my tastes.

Patek's most remontic offering, in RG in particular as abe is saying too.

It offers even an hinge back that allows you to personalise it with an engraving or lets you put a picture in. A watch for life. Moritz

I agree with her

This is by far the most aesthetically appealing watch currently available from any manufacturer (IMO). In a couple of years when my 5146 goes in for service, who know's, I may break down and get one. I actually prefer the WG version, but both are stunning...
