Patek Philippe: Yes indeed...

...it certainly does cost! I had my 2526 overhauled about 3 years ago. I replaced my newer crown with a PP crown, and also bought a new strap. The total was a bit over $2,000 which I calculated was slightly more than the price of my first 17 watches combined. It also took about 6 months. And it was

Patek Philippe: Wow. All I got were socks.

It's a great watch. I have been wearing mine every day for a few weeks now. I must confess, I really love the look of the enamel.

Patek Philippe: I agree...

...they are nice watches. As to the rest, well, picture my shoulders shrugging. I reckon people should be free to wear whatever watch they want, and others should feel free to think as they wish. Personally, I prefer small watches for two reasons - (1) larger watches keep bumping, uncomfortably, int

Patek Philippe: Yes. I was lucky!

Unlike many here, I am not a watch collector. In fact, I don't collect much "stuff" at all. But I really do like to have nice stuff, if I'm going to have any stuff at all. (Or if it's going to be cheezy stuff, it ought to have high sentimental value.) It wasn't till I got into my late 30s that I eve

Patek Philippe: Nothing wrong with those prices.

About 5 years ago I had a vintage Ulysse Nardin (manual) overhauled for 500 CHF and an older Rolex (automatic) for 600 CHF. The basic PP prices correlate reasonably well. Bear in mind that vintage PPs can be very expensive to overhaul. I paid about $2K three years ago to overhaul a 2526, including a

Patek Philippe: Ditto

I think Patek can probably do almost anything you want them to do. But there is such a thing as diminishing returns. I inherited a 2526 a few years ago. The only thing about it in perfect condition was, most fortunately, the dial. I located an old-stock buckle, and sent the watch to Patek for an ove

Patek Philippe: Excellent question!

And I don't know the answer. I would imagine the Tiffany to be ever-so-slightly more collectable because it is rarer. But alas, the rareness would be unlikely to impart the same sort of additional value that, for example, a black dial or rose gold case would. Personally, I would opt for whichever wa

Patek Philippe: Both are somewhat shocking

I think $60,000 is about $35,000 too much for the one. Yellow gold and plain ivory enamel dial in excellent condition should probably be much closer to $25,000. I think $19,200 is way too much for a 2526 with such cracks in the dial, plus I would suppose it needs an overhaul by the looks of the crys

Patek Philippe: When I wear my 2526...

...nobody notices. To tell the truth, I like it this way.

Patek Philippe: 2526?

I think something like a Patek 2526 or a Calatrava if you want something newer. Other vintage watches can be nice as well. I personally prefer a very plain gold watch. Even a date is a bit too complicated for me.
