Well essentially we are on the same page.  The analogy would be like to run the marathon with your best friends.  We keep pushing ourselves beyond our limits of yesterday, and the winning feeling is when we cross the finish line together with our buddies.  Only exception is that we want to run longer & faster ...

A question for the audience- collector/watchmaker/dealer?

 By: watch-guy.com : November 30th, 2011-20:50
I am curous to find out where each of us sits on the spectrum. I understand that some are collector/watchmakers and some are watchmaker / dealers whilst other lie at either end of the spectrum. Where do you sit?- no pressure to answer if you feel uncomfor...

I'm just a plain consumer

Best, Kari

You are probably at the nut end of the spectrum.

Whereas I am probably at the consumer end and wish I could argue I was a collector. Best regards, George

less of an enthusiast and more a collector..

I feel you can be a 'serious' collector without having 'serious' funds. In fact it makes it more important to be serious about collecting when you have limited means. I would class myself as a collector rather than an enthusiast of Patek. I love their pie...

None of the above. Reckon I am not unique, but quite a few of us strive towards attaining the grail watch. As a rule, I aim to collect only 1 watch for every brand, and have recently sold six nice watches to buy one extraordinary one. PP is the only brand...

No!

I would say that because we all have different tastes and budgets we are not at all competitors. Thank god for that. For example I strong disagree that Patek is the ultimate trophy. Yes its a great brand and well managed but there were great watch brands ...

Amateur Collector, and a watch nut...

I have posted a photo of my modest collection, three of them inherited. Rolex is circa 1972/1973, VC extra-thin is circa 1989/90, Cartier is mid-80's, and the VC Patrimony Traditionelle is a recent buy. I would love to expand my collection, and would love...

I'll go for collector.

The reasons I think I qualify are (1) number of watches and (2) the fact that I collect based on certain coherent (at least to me) themes.

Interesting question. What makes someone a Collector?

 By: Nat : December 1st, 2011-09:57
I think I'm an enthousiast but like Mortitz, aspire to be a collector. But I am not sure I know the criteria to make such a distinction. Collector seems more respectable though and sounds better than a guy who like watches. Is it possible to be a collecto...

Hi Julian, this is a question only for Patek owners?

Perhaps a post on HoMe would capture a broader spectrum of replies? Anyway, I am a collector for sure. Best, Horo

started collecting inexpensive vintage Rolex Oysters when Rolex Princes were beyond my budget. Moved on to vintage Rolex sports models as & when they came along. Gradually I gained a little more confidence to spend a little more on my watches. Then I open...
