What makes a watch vintage?

Was visiting my AD this week talking abouy upcoming Basel. Our conversation drifted to "vintage". We were both puzzled by what is" vintage"? Simply put ,when or what makes an old watch become a "vintage watch"? Would be interesting to hear the opinions of this esteemed body  of watch aficinioniodos?

i think 25 years old it is vintage i may be wrong as i know this is true for cars not certain with watches but our friendly members here will certainly shed light on it

Vintage is a contraction of " Vingt ans d'age "

Which in English is 20 years old. But, when it comes to watches, Vintage watches have to be born before the 80ies... I guess that this may change in 30 years... Best, Nicolas

I didn't know that. Well that makes my next venture a bit more easier. I am looking for a "vintage" Chronograph from my birth year of 1958!!!!
