Hands on review of the Patek 5213G

 By: foversta : June 24th, 2014-14:38
The 5213G belongs to the category of watches which explain why Patek has a very special place in the top of the watchmaking hill. It gathers with a lot of elegance and without any unnecessary trick two of the favorite complications of the Manufacture: the...

Another problem with the retrograde date...

The date can almost often be fully covered by the hands of the hours, making it difficult to decipher what date it actually is. Thank you for the comprehensive review and especially the video of this extraordinary new repeater from Patek Philippe!

Thanks!

A rare watch, nice to read and hear about

Hey Fx, It is nice to have such a comprehensive post with your thoughts on such a rare complication and beautiful watch. I haven't had the chance to hold one yet but the finishing should be really above what we are used to seeing. Even if I see those over...

Dear Mark...

as you pointed it out, I think the different issues remain really minor ones... when we are in front a such amaziing piece, I think that we almost forget everything! Fx

Thanks for the great review...Love it! Cheers,

I like it, I don´t like it, I like it a lot ...

I agree it has a lots fo pros, but at the end I probably would not go for it. Simply because it is almost perfect, but almost is not enough for me ... in this case/at that price level. Can´t remember that I have seen it in the metal or even handled it and...

Thanks Olivier!

I'm sure that you will have the opportunity to see it! Fx

Thank you for the fair report...and few additional comments.

Cons: 1. Adding a metal back cover makes the piece needlessly heavier, for those who do not like heavy watches. 2. As mentioned before, continuation of the overlapping leap year indicator with date problem associated with the scale-up of the perpetual cal...

Thanks Jim for your input.

Actually, I tend to agree with your comments. It is easy to understand why: with such prestige and excellence, we are demanding and we expect more. I expect more from Patek... an example: I expect a successor to the 215... Fx

Amazing piece, and I may be nitpicking here

But on the 5016, the space under the moonphase is where it says tourbillon and has the number for it. Here, it is just empty space, almost a stark reminder that it does feel like the 5016 without the toubillon. I dont know how they could have made it any ...

Thanks for this interesting remark.

 By: foversta : June 25th, 2014-14:08
It is also something I felt with a different watch, the 5496... an empty space below the moonphase. Anyway, it was not a shocking point for the 5213G for me. Thanks! Fx

Tough

Not sure how much I "don't like" it as it maybe moves it from a 9.75/10 to a 9.5/10. Not a big deal. I think the major defect is not with the watch being too big, but with my wrist being too small. The fault therefore does not lie with Patek, but with the...

You know... you just have to try...

Sometimes a large watch can have a good surprise due to the size and shape of the lugs... Fx

Thank you for this thorough review

Thanks. And I like how you always have some dislikes. For some people when it comes to Pateks, it's always perfect. Personally I still like 5016 over 5213.
