Patek Philippe World Time 5110P: Ten Years of Love.

 By: amanico : November 3rd, 2014-05:42
2d of November 2004... Taormina, Sicily. A few months back, I secured the deal on this watch, and just had to take a plane to go there, in one of the most charming towns of Sicily, for a long week end. I can go much back in Time, as when Patek released th...

Very Nice History, I really enjoyed this

 By: 4Js : November 3rd, 2014-06:01
But, I have a curious question. Why all the way to Sicily for a new Patek? However, the shop owner seems to be a real torturer! Continue to wear in the best of health Best, Joe

Because he is a friend.... I met him some 6 months before for the first time.

 By: amanico : November 3rd, 2014-06:08
When I discovered Taormina. I bought him the Breguet Type XX Salmon dial. It was a funny deal. I knew him for a few days before, I didn't have the money on me, and nobody to do the wire for me, and he let me go with the Watch, trusting me. We became frien...

Such love is rare enough to celebrate it with care and joy

Passion and Admiration for a watch. You can also add " Magic ", as it is ALWAYS magic when dreams come true. Few watches provide such a pleasure. This one is definitely in my Top Ten Keepers. Best, Nicolas

Hi Nico, the 5110 is definitely a true love for you & I hope...

Your photo of her wearing that one on holiday was beautiful.

Renewing your "wedding" vows ..... This is a happy moment.

 By: Clueless_Collector : November 3rd, 2014-07:26
I can fully imagine this anticipation when you went to meet this watch. I did months of research and reading all the articles I can find about Nautilus before I met the AD and that moment is very similar to your post. You brought back that feeling of joy....

I must admit, you have convinced me! The pursuit for the right specimen is on!

I would be very happy to welcome you in the WT Gang.

As you certainly know, I am not, by far, the biggest, Patek Fan.... BUT I must admit that some of their watches are references. This world time is one of them. And I am a big world time / travel time, / GMT lover! Best, Nicolas

Congrats, dear Nicolas!

My pleasure, Oliver. Thanks for the nice words, and who knows?

A few year ago, looking at the messages posted by this god damned bloody fu****g Nico, I saw pictures he made about this 5110 P. More and more attracted by this watch, I decided one day to contact him (I live in Paris too) to ask him if he would be OK to ...

Damn, Didier, you are thinking I am guilty, here? ;)

 By: amanico : November 3rd, 2014-11:15
I am quite proud of it, as your taste is impeccable. Yes, I see a sign of destiny, here... As you know, this is something we sadly share, I mean, the burglary. And like you, I had it on my wrist... Along with a few others. I am very happy to count this on...

After very careful consideration I must state:

Very cool post Nicolas....

 By: Fricks : November 3rd, 2014-12:29
... you have went through all what make us love our watches. There is a thing you said that especially liked, " it also is one of my fetish time keeper, the one I wear when I feel the need of an extra strength..." That shows how deeply we are connected to...

I am a bit superstittious, too. ;) More seriously....

 By: amanico : November 3rd, 2014-12:40
Sometimes,, in certain occasions, you need some extras, like a nice suit, fine shoes, and... a great Watch. The form and the function at the service of the " fond ". This 5110P is one of these indispensable accessories. Best, Nicolas

It was a great pleasure to read this words...

not a review but a fragment of life, a chronicle of emotions conveyed so intensely that I thought for a moment to be there! Moreover, one of the few Patek I really like, superb watch... Best, my friend! massi

... And a raconteur extraordinaire! How much I enjoyed reading the story of your passionate love with this watch! I almost viewed the scene! You know how much I desire this timepiece myself! Now, I not only desire this watch but I also wish to live a love...

Thanks for sharing this history...

This 5110P is really beautiful and special, congratulations.... my 5130p says hi.. Jorge

Nicolas, it has been a year and a half and counting...

 By: srvjrg : November 4th, 2014-19:56
The 5130p is a very nice watch, very nice movement, very nice complication, but the real beauty is in the assembly... what a nice, subtle, and useful set of form, function, and aesthetics, ... at the beginning I had some fights as a result of the occasion...

on a bigger wrist. I presently wear Panerai's and a Omega 44m Planet Ocean. Thanks!

If you love 44 mm watches, and don't like smaller watches, then you will have a problem.

 By: amanico : November 4th, 2014-06:32
I personally like big watches and small watches. Size, for me, is not a problem, while coherence is most important for me. Best, Nicolas

40m Journe which looked OK on my wrist so I am thinking this piece would feel the same. The only way to know is to try one on. Thanks Nicolas.

In this case, you should try it on, indeed. You will see.

You may have a " revelating " surprise. ;)

I agree with nico

 By: descartes1 : November 5th, 2014-19:59
I wear 44mm Panerai from time to time, a 42MM Omega Speedy, and most often a variety of 40mm Rolexes. The 37mm Patek fits in quite well, dressy or casual. It is a different look compared to the chunky sport watches, but it's elegance is refreshing as an a...

Dacca vs Dhaka

 By: abe : November 5th, 2014-19:19
Great piece about a truly iconic Patek; the best Word time PERIOD BTW, I observed something!! Has anybody else noted that the 5110 that Dr. Kol has, shows Dhaka (capitol of Bangladesh) vs the other ones showing it as Dacca!! are there 2 different editions...

Not only that….

 By: descartes1 : November 5th, 2014-20:03
But the newly released World Time Moon, which also spells it Dhaka, has moved Moscow to a new timezone, despite the fact that legislation just changed it to the former time zone, so these 5110s are correct again. Heh heh. PS Mine says Dacca too.

+1. [nt]

 By: amanico : November 5th, 2014-22:04

Mine os from 2004. Dr Kol's one is much later.

My story with this reference is quite similar to yours, although I must say that your excellent posts and photography definitely served as encouragement. I too always loved the 5110P form the time I saw it in the shop window (and I was much younger than, ...

Similar story, indeed. With a different decorum, but same story. ;)

Nicolas-before you started posting on this watch- I never paid attention to this reference. Now I like it so much I am considering swapping my worldtime with this one. Thank you for the great pictures and happy 10th anniversary. With this watch you should...

To this day, with the test of time, in my opinon, this is the best WT Patek ever did.

 By: amanico : November 16th, 2014-07:46
Even the tempting 5131 is a step below... I wouldn't have said that if the dial had better proportions, on the enamel sister. Yes, Edmond, a Watch to grab! Best, Nicolas

Hi Nico, I understand your feelings about 5110 vs 5131 in terms of...

 By: GLau : November 16th, 2014-10:52
... overall proportion, which causes you to rank 5110 higher. IMO, the extra size of the 5131 enables the cities to be better spaced and hence improves the legibility. Now whether one really need to clearly read the cities is another matter. So overall, f...

Don't get me wrong, Gordon. I am very found of the 5131 enamel dial

 By: amanico : November 16th, 2014-10:55
And if it was not ridiculously subjet to a premium, I would have one.... This is the epitome of poetry. Now, in an ideal world, I would revisit the proportions of the dial. Best, my friend. Nicolas

Such a great piece!

Lovely story behind it, in the beautiful Taormina. you're teasing me hard with this world tim Nicolas, so i decide to spend some quality time on web to discover better the G version. i'll keep you updated on this :) congrats, again, and happy birthday to ...

The G is not a bad choice. I long time hesitated between the P and the G.

 By: amanico : November 16th, 2014-13:31
The G is colder, but not less elegant nor appealing. All the best, Amico. Nicolas

perhaps...
