Both are nice and everyone prefers blue

But IMO, you sleep over it and if you still like the white one then go for it. Then live with it, of course you will always find that the majority prefers blue but a watch is about you.

NAUTILUS 5980 - BLUE Vs WHITE

 By: Alex83 : July 24th, 2014-15:44
Good evening dear Purists, My dealer sent me a 5980 white dial to compare with the blue one I recently got from him and eventually swap it; I know the blue is more popular but I am really loving the white one...so clean and harmonious.. What would you say...

I knew you would say that

 By: Alex83 : July 24th, 2014-15:53
wow that was quick Nico, I know you prefer the blue but, did you wear the white one for a little while? it really grows on you, during the day it radiates light and can sort out a formal dressing or casual. at night I agree the blue one recovers protagoni...

I saw the white several times,in the flesh, and honestly...

 By: amanico : July 24th, 2014-22:19
It lacks its special look. The blue is so special, so characteristic... But that is just my opinion, and, of cours,e if you prefer the white, then go for it! Best, Nicolas

While i'm a fan of white dials...

I would keep the blue on this one. It's 'fume' style will keep the dial a lot more interesting for years to come than the completely neutral white dial. I DO love how the hour markers contrast on the white dial (I really like white dial watches, they're m...

an important fact also is

 By: Alex83 : July 24th, 2014-15:56
that I do own a AP RO 15202 Blue dial; so I would make sense to have a blue and a white dial; would you go otherwise, ie white AP and Blue PP?

Go with your own opinion...

 By: patrick_y : July 24th, 2014-16:23
What would I say? I say go with whichever one you like more and don't ask others for their opinions. My opinion is suited for me. Not for you. Maybe ask for some facts. And the fact that should matter the most is this... The one you like more is? Your own...

well I am pretty clear in my mind

 By: Alex83 : July 24th, 2014-16:25
hence asked my dealer to send the white; curious however on the forum's thoughts..plus am pretty proud of the pictures! ;)

They are superb pictures actually....

I am more of an RO person than Nautilus, but the white dial really stands out for me. (maybe because I am not a Nautilus purist!) I think the fact that you have the 15202 blue dial is a big factor, so get the white dial!!

Thanks! This time I used the tripod

 By: Alex83 : July 25th, 2014-00:33
And the macro lens; I think I have discovered a new hobby of mine! More will come!! Thanks for your thoughts, I am pretty decided with the white 5980, unless I can get my hands on the 5726 white dial which I thinks Is stunning! Cheers, JR

tough decision

 By: cmclee : July 24th, 2014-17:54
both are nice in their own ways.. the white does grows on you. Much depends which color suits you better. So some people, they carry the blue dial better..whereas for others, the white. If in doubt, get another person to come along to compare and give hon...

Nautilus 5980 blue or white

 By: geross : July 24th, 2014-18:55
Go for the blue it contrasts the stainless steel bracelet. best geross

White one

 By: MTR : July 24th, 2014-19:07
I would go for the white one. For me it's more "special", timeless and clearer, and you can wear it on all occasions. But I think you have allready made your decision :-) Cheers, Thomas

Let me see....

 By: gqmagic : July 24th, 2014-22:08
You have the blue 5980 and AP 15202. You're trying to convince yourself (hence your question here) that the white dial is better. And then you go on to rationalize "since I have the AP the white 5980 is better". I wouldn't do it. If you like the white 598...

You seem to have already made the choice, the white...

 By: ch9698 : July 24th, 2014-23:56
I really prefer the blue one If it's not a question of money, you can keep the blue, and try the new 5960 in SS with a marvelous white dial

First impressions

 By: Spellbound : July 24th, 2014-23:56
I think you need to trust your initial impressions. I would go for the white if it were not for the black bordered hour markers. It is rare that a watch grows on me, and these markers would always be an eyesore for me. So in this case, the blue hands down...

My liking is ...

towards the blue dial, like many of the others. The white dial has little colour contrast on the dial and that makes it seem plain. White looks good on some models, like calatravas 5227 but not a Nautilus. Doesn't bring out the "strength" of the watch. Ha...

I personnally go for white, but....

By: Mark in Paris : July 25th, 2014-02:15
I really suggest you to go toward what you like most and not what others may prefer. It is the best way not to regret your choice in several weeks. I also prefer the white one as I don't like the 6 o'clock subdial color, especially compared to the blue pa...

...from PuristS, then I would suggest (in addition to your personal style and taste) to also consider your "strategy" (thinking) for your overall watch / Patek collection. You mentioned that you have an AP with blue dial. What about your overall Patek col...

now you made me think twice

 By: Alex83 : July 25th, 2014-08:57
Good approach Glau, I had not considered how the color of the 5980 was going to fit in my small PP collection...and now I have a doubt as I realize that I tend to go for the white dials. Here a few pictures of the other 2 princes, the 5205 and the 5070G (...

Alex83...nice collection !!

White dial nautilus gives consistency whereas the blue gives diversity Look forward to finding out your final decision

Well said, Gordon! Cheers, Oliver

No doubts

In my thinking at least when it comes to who should be joining your PP family. Mr Blue of course! But not knowing your lifestyle a bit hard to tell. If you ski more than sunbathe perhaps the white 5980. But if more time spent in the sun, blue! Good luck.

Blue

 By: nacho217 : July 25th, 2014-11:09
Both are the best of the best , but If I were you , no doubt : blue

White

 By: Ed Watches : July 25th, 2014-15:16
I love blue dials, but the white Nautilus is more sporty than the blue one IMHO. Since you already own other great classic PPs, I would go with the most modern looking of the Nautilus family: white!

Some more thoughts ...

 By: small-luxury-world : July 26th, 2014-03:53
The blue dial is gorgeous, especially in different lights. But it is more "flashy" and I am not a big fan of the white date. The white dial is very special and shows subtle beauty at its best. It is not for everyone, but amazing for those who like it. The...

thanks Oliver, that is also my view

 By: Alex83 : July 26th, 2014-05:13
I am still giving it a few days but white is the one more likely to stay; as for the global collection, it is true that the other 2 remain in their classic design so adding the transgressive white Nautilus could make sense too....or I might just be trying...

Great point of view, Alex

 By: Ed Watches : July 26th, 2014-08:01
If you can get the 'daring' version (white), do it. As for the traditional PP design approach, you are already doing more than good with the other watches in your collection. I have a friend who owns the 5980 white dial and, man, what a piece! Congratulat...

Hi Alex and all...

Just came in to share a good read. Some mention about white and dark dial nautilus. Could help in the eventual decision between dark dial and white dial Nautilus. Cheers.

I'm biased

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : July 28th, 2014-15:36
Personally I feel that the blue belongs to the 3700 or 3712 (or 5711/12). The chrono looks much more in balance in white/silver. And more sporty. And more versatile. It stands out more. Patek also stopped producing it, at least I've that read somewhere, s...
