Travel companion: PP moon & stars vs UN enamel - which do you prefer and why

 By: GLau : January 29th, 2015-10:56
Had them both on my wrist and after a 3 hours flight, I could not decide which was better !! Then I thought more and my conclusion is: for short haul, the UN enamel because the dial is so so well done !! whereas for long haul, I could spend time admiring ...

That is easy.

Never ever travel with just one watch. One is for the heart and one is supporting travelling and the job :-) I used to travel about 220 days per year and always did it like this - one for daytime with the customer and one for "dreaming" latenight. It is j...

Yes Oliver, one needs to always travel with 2 watches !! For me,

 By: GLau : January 30th, 2015-06:55
both watches are for day and night, with one on each wrist so that I am ready for whatever activities !! :-) Cheers, Gordon

Hi Nico, I knew that...

...you would pick PP because it is a WT!! Cheers Gordon

Actually Nico, I had my doubts about which one you would pick because...

you did not like the 5575 too much as stated in your review I know for sure that you LOVE UN enamel dials Hence, I guessed 51 vs 49 for the Moon Ha Ha, perhaps I do not know you all that well but I will soon given your answers :-)

Not sure how long you wear it like that, but I always...

advice against wearing this way...one swing and the UN crown will hit the PP case...ouch! I know you must be a careful person but wearing this way will have to make it tight...not comfortable. I will wear on both wrist, criss-cross my arms to look at both...

Hi Raymond, thanks for reminding me and others about...

being carefully wearing both watches on one wrist. I had them on my left wrist only for the photos. Before and after the photos, I wore each on a separate wrist. :-) With one on each wrist, I could not take a photo, hence both on left wrist. Cheers, Gordo...

I would bring both. For more pleasant surroundings and company id wear the patek. For late nights out with a little bar hoping , aka martin sheen. Id wear the un. Cheers glad you have both gordon. Best Geross

Hi Geross, I wear them...

sometimes with one on each wrist at the same time so that I am covered for all occasions !! LOL !! Cheers, Gordon

Having both is best, but if I had to pick just one...

it would be the UN, because there is so much to appreciate and it stays under the radar, which is always my preference. Plus it's more legible and without a date, it's easy enough to set when crossing timezones. Both beauties, and I'm amazed that you actu...

Hi Richard, I actually...

wore one on each wrist and only wore them on my left wrist for photos ONLY !! Your logic for choosing the UN is sound. FYI, Only issue is that when the luminous hands get into to the area of the white horse, it is difficult to read them then. Cheers, Gord...

Nice watches Gordon, but weird question with too obvious an answer...

 By: patrick_y : January 29th, 2015-18:42
Let me state the obvious: 1. You posted this question in the Patek Philippe forum. 2. The Ulysse Nardin you posted isn't specifically a travel watch. If you posted the same photo in the Ulysse Nardin forum and asked for non-travel watch with horse photo, ...

I prefer the UN

 By: Asad A Awan : January 30th, 2015-00:44
While both are absolutely stunning watches and have great merits of their own, I much prefer the UN for one simple reason: legibility...I just cant read very easily the Patek, and for me, legibility is very important...I know that we do not always wear th...

Hi Asad, thank you for your thoughtful comments !! Each Purist has

his or her own reasons and reading the reasons is what this forum is about. Legibility wise, the although Moon is harder to read because of the dark background, it can be read easily by slightly tilting the wrist to a better angle. The UN horse is easily ...

Hi Patrick, you are very observant !! But you did not realize that...

 By: GLau : January 30th, 2015-07:47
1. I was going to post it on UN forum, but I posted on Patek because it was really late (past 2am in my morning) and I had to sleep & I wanted Patek PuristS to compare 5575 with Enamel. 2. My meaning of travel watch did not refer to a worldtime or one...

I was happy to see your post!

I was happy to see your post regardless! Thanks for the explanation Gordon but I was happy to see your post regardless. I'm not one to complain when someone shows me pictures of two very nice watches. Thanks for the explanation Gordon.

I think between the 2 I will pick the UN

Travels can have long waiting times. The UN enamel dial can be appreciated for hours with or without a loupe! :) You are a very blessed man Gordon to have these beautiful travel companions :) Cheers Robin

Thanks Robin !! UN Enamel Horse dial is wonderful and I actually travel with..
