The world time reference 5110 seems to be an incredibly popular watch on this forum. I think there is a reason for that. Lets not talk about the movement. The style. The case. Nicolas has done a great job over the years expounding the virtues of his 5110P. These qualities, of course, make the watch the piece that it is. I originally owned a 5110Y but swapped it for the 5110G above.
And this leads me to why I think the watch is so popular. It works...with a pair of jeans....and equally well with black tie. It has that universal look that works almost regardless of the style of the wearer. Now, I think that is especially true for the white metal...P and G....but less so for the yellow and rose which are more formal to my eye. I would be tempted to add a 5110P to my G.
A watch for most occasions.....yes. I can see why it would have such wide appeal.

When it comes to world times, the Patek is the winner. Not in terms of sophistication and functionality, but in terms of charm. And charm is one of the most important cirteria, for us, don't you think? Best, Joe. Nicolas
.....I don't know if its charm or aesthetics...... sometimes, I will look at a watch and its aesthetics are so powerful that I will readily overlook some perhaps fundamental flaws under the hood.
But trade G (plus funds) for P. White metal appearance stays the same and you get that nice blue/grey center in the P. Same dress up/down potential. Once you have the P you might not think the G is absolutely necessary don't you think? But the G is gorgeo...
on your wrist. Just wait few days and see if at Baselworld, a PP novelty will talk to you best than an additional 5110 in your collection ;-))) In any case, G or P play on the same range for easy wearability under many circonstancies. BRs, Patrickh
I prefer the shape of the hands on the 5110 to the 5130. I also have a small wrist so the 5110 fits me better. Such a functional watch and absolutely beautiful. one of my favorite Patek watches!
..I see the 5110 like this....the 5110 is "mellow" and "mild", the guilloche part of the dial lends it an "afternoon" feel, the whiteness of the dial is "forgiving". In RG its glow reminds me of valve Röhrenradios of the 1950ies (while the 5130 with its s...
and I guess passion & love are involved here. There have been a few quite critical reviews about that watch, even from well-known collectors, in the past. Have they been wrong? No, but in some cases it is not all about the perfect features if there is...
... regarding the 5110. This timpiece is very special to me. I´ve been dreaming with it for years till I finaly reached it a couple of months ago. I felt like I was touching the sky! As I wrote when I showed it here just a few hours after having it on my ...
...and came first I coul also presume that the size matters and 37mm are more suitable to a clasy dress watch more than 39. But i'm not sure this last reason can apply to the occurrence we are talking about, given the fashion trend of big cases which most...
