Some recent discussions about the difficult choice of a Patek Philippe wrist watch minute repeater have led me to take the time to show you some pictures I have of such marvels. There are different levels of complication and we're not all attracted by the same complications. In fact once you've got to the level of a repeater, I wonder what attraction an additional complication can really have? Patek Philippe 5078P Here it is : patek.wat... more

It has been some years now since the introduction of the Celestial dial on some Patek Philippe wristwatches. I have to confess that I've never been excessively appealed by these watches. The Star calibre is another subject on the contrary. Still I've realized the extraordinary appeal of a sky map on some serious collectors. This nearly unique feature, nearly specific for Patek Philippe (the Van Cleef is the other one that immediately comes to my mind) has the power to fo... more

I just attended the press preview of the Patek Philippe Grand Exhibition at the St Regis hotel in Singapore which will run from 27-31 May 2010. The exhibition is well worth attending. The preview and press conference was followed by a luncheon. Someone likely made an enormous mistake and put me at the table with Philippe Stern, instead of the table by the exit; the rest of the table was mostly occupied by important journalists including Timmy Tan, Wei Koh and Eddy Koh, editors of TimeWerke, Revo... more

Every year Patek Philippe produces limited editions of enamelled waches, or unique pieces of Dome table clocks or other pieces. This year again much work has been done to create these marvellous pieces of art. Those who visited the Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva know to what extent enamel watches are an essential part of Patek Philippe's history. Please let me present you the new models that were shown at Baselworld. Let's begin with the men's limited edition ... more

Without any doubt, the Patek Chronograph 5170 was one of the stars of the 2010 Basel Fair. Its reference number may suggest it is the successor of the 5070 and it is actually the case because: it is the new handwind chronograph of the brand after all. But can we say so when we compare them? They are so different and moreover, they don't share the same caliber. Jérôme already made a comprehensive post about this watch here:patek.watchprosite.com And Nicolas about the 5070 here:patek.watchprosite.co... more

Thanks to Patek Philippe France, I had the opportunity to see a large part of the 2010 novelties.I would like today to present you the pics I took of the Annual Calendars. I wished to start with these watches for three reasons: I consider the Annual Calendar complication as one of the most interesting ones: it is not a sort of programming like a Perpetual Calendar, an Annual Calendar caliber is very differently built. Even if it seems to be a downgraded Perpetual Calendar, it is not the way an Annual Calen... more

- INTRODUCTION - When you're considering building a collection of fine Chronographs the 5070 is certainly a piece which comes or will come to your mind, along with some past or recent models such as the Lange Datograph, the Vacherons (Les Historiques / Malte / Patrimony), and the more recent Jaeger-Lecoultre Duomètre à Chronographe. All these references belong, in my opinion, to the top class family of Chronographs, and each of them has its own personality, with its flaws and its qualities which wi... more

Patek Philippe chronographs 5170J, 5950A, 5951P, 5960P, 5980/1A and 5980R - Baselworld 2010 Here are finally the different new chronographs issued this year at BaselWorld 2010 by Patek Philippe. I can say that several of them are already haunting my dreams. You've already seen the 5170J last week but this time I can share some live pics. As always the BaselWorld conditions are not ideal for pics, still I hope you'll find the watch appealing. Once again the Patek Philippe star is an understa... more
