I attended a seminar sponsored by Patek Philippe Japan and Chronos Japan at The Hour Glass Ginza where the well known watch journalist of Japan, Mr. Hirota, gave the audience some enlightenment of how PP's annual calendars are different and thus better in certain aspects. Maybe you, PP experts. already know of these, but I thought it would be good to share what I learned in case you want to deepen your admiration for PP. In total, more than 130 Patek gathered at THG, and it is not everyday ... more
There is one thing that will never be achieved. Well there are many more than that in fact. But there is one that links us all here. I'm sorry to write it so directly, without even knowing if you're comfortably sitting, safely readied for such fact. In case take a seat. OK so let's write it: a Patek Philippe collection can't be achieved! You doubt? You should not. There are many factors that drive us constantly away from the goal, not even the fact that you have ... more
On the 22nd.June, 2011 Patek officially launched their new ref.5235. The new reference breaks new ground, and is a catalogue of firsts for the company. The first , first is the fact that it is the companies debut wristwatch regulator. Indeed, for collectors this is an absolute dream come true, and we could say that this is truely a new chapter not only for Patek Philippe but in the manufacture of regulators...it is to my knowledge, a world debut of a regulator with annual calendar.  ... more
Please take the opportunity to have a look at the Patek Philippe 2011 novelties presented at the Paris Salon and brought back to you by Foversta. Here they are : patek.watchprosite.com -0/ ... more
Obviously many here and myself first may wonder if we will ever see this watch out of the Patek Philippe window at Baselworld or the Geneva boutique. Those who may not wonder such question may answer "why bother?". I've read your many answers complaining in some way about so many "Grande complication" watches in this year's novelties from Patek Philippe. Well if that's really that much a problem for you you can have a look there: http://patek.watchprosite.com/show-forumpost/fi-11/pi-4519... more
We won't have had to wait too much to see a new perpetual calendar manual wind chronograph appear from Patek Philippe' s novelties. Just two years after the Patek Philippe 5970P, the Patek Philippe 5270G is taking the glorious path of its ancestors. The new chapter opened today is significant also because the Patek Philippe 5270G is the first ever (non split second) wrist chronograph with perpetual calendar equipped with a manufacture calibre from Patek Philippe. If the referen... more
Last week, PATEK PHILIPPE and Cortina Watch opened the second boutique in Marina Bay Sands just after a year from their first jointly managed boutique in ION Orchard. Pretty exceptional to have an authorised dealer to have more than one jointly-managed boutique. The Marina Bay Sands Boutique is located strategically along the crossroads of the hotel, casino and shopppes. To view more, please click here. &n... more
Here are video clips of the references 3979J, 5078P and 5016R minute repeaters from Patek Philippe. These are not showroom watches, they are owned by collectors who have worn them. The 3979 is a couple of years old while the 5078 and 5016 are fairly new. click here to see the rest of the videos. - SJX ... more
May I begin this thread by letting all know not to worry? I'm still wishing to order a Patek Philippe 5711/1A for myself and not looking for another option. By the way I can no longer qualify myself as "young blood" so the subject is not for my own use! On the contrary I may more ask myself and yourself why I didn't buy a Patek Philippe so far, as a Calatrava option is not unreachable as the stars of this forum can be. Don't worry again I'm just writing about star... more
A few weeks back some here discussed about the parallels between cars and Patek Philippe watches. http://patek.watchprosite.com/show-forumpost/fi-11/pi-4011276/ti-639536/s-0/ A few weeks even earlier I had looked more for boat builder comparisons. http://patek.watchprosite.com/show-forumpost/fi-11/pi-3923966/ti-626326/s-0/ I stick to my words about such parallels between carmakers and watchmakers. I still consider these two businesses to be too different to be directly ... more
Recently two gentlemen collectors each purchased one timepiece - the Patek Philippe References 5970P and 5016R. click here to see what transpired in a Patek Philippe boutique. - SJX ... more
Some recent discussions about the difficult choice of a Patek Philippe wrist watch minute repeater have led me to take the time to show you some pictures I have of such marvels. There are different levels of complication and we're not all attracted by the same complications. In fact once you've got to the level of a repeater, I wonder what attraction an additional complication can really have? Patek Philippe 5078P Here it is : patek.wat... more
It has been some years now since the introduction of the Celestial dial on some Patek Philippe wristwatches. I have to confess that I've never been excessively appealed by these watches. The Star calibre is another subject on the contrary. Still I've realized the extraordinary appeal of a sky map on some serious collectors. This nearly unique feature, nearly specific for Patek Philippe (the Van Cleef is the other one that immediately comes to my mind) has the power to fo... more

I just attended the press preview of the Patek Philippe Grand Exhibition at the St Regis hotel in Singapore which will run from 27-31 May 2010. The exhibition is well worth attending. The preview and press conference was followed by a luncheon. Someone likely made an enormous mistake and put me at the table with Philippe Stern, instead of the table by the exit; the rest of the table was mostly occupied by important journalists including Timmy Tan, Wei Koh and Eddy Koh, editors of TimeWerke, Revo... more
Every year Patek Philippe produces limited editions of enamelled waches, or unique pieces of Dome table clocks or other pieces. This year again much work has been done to create these marvellous pieces of art. Those who visited the Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva know to what extent enamel watches are an essential part of Patek Philippe's history. Please let me present you the new models that were shown at Baselworld. Let's begin with the men's limited edition ... more
