III - And some technical spec's......

The new caliber is called
CH 28-520 IRM QA 24H
Chronograph (minute/hour counter) with flyback function, power reserve, day/night indication, annual calendar and automatic unidirectional winding (CCW).

  • 33mm diameter
  • 7.68mm height
  • 28mm diameter of base movement (press release states "30", but I believe it's 28mm)
  • 5.20 mm base movement height
  • 2.48mm height calendar module

  • 55 hours power reserve
  • 21 karat gold rotor with lubrication free ceramic ball bearing (zirconium)

It's equipped with the four spoke Gyromax balance with Breguet overcoil hairspring and beating at 4 Hz frequency (28.800 bph).

Two position stem/crown, no hack function.

The annual calendar module, which in it's basic layout derrives from the one used in ref. 5136, was changed to allow for new corrector pusher positions. It took some serious effort to relocate them on the left case side, even allowing for positioning them in the same order as the date windows. From left to right, day, date and month - a very logical and user friendly solution.

The entire design seems to be very well thought out especially with focus on the ease of use. Setting, very simple as it's an annual calendar with corrector pushers in most logical order and day/night indication helps to find recommended time frame. Automatic winding, and chronograph with vertical clutch design - this allows for permanentely running chrono function without the risk of excessive wear or unreliable timekeeping. The flyback function is a perfect addition in this context: if one likes to have a large sweep second and therefore prefers the chrono running all the time - in case of wishing to time an event simply press/release the reset button (at "4") and evrything is done! I can hardly think of a more realistic use for a flyback function

Best regards
Suitbert

the dimensions of the case yet? For all the NO NO guys, take a looong look at the picture #4 from top. This watch is very nice looking in this color combination. (Maybe its not in other golds...) Carl

The case diameter is 40.5mm, making it "more wearable" than the 5070

and other 42mm and up case sizes. It is not thin, but the proportions are nice (to give you an idea about my concern about "proportion" - I love the 3970 dial layout, but bought, sold (too thick), (regretted it) bought again, then finally sold again, my 3...

I just loooove this watch. The first time I see a Patek Philippe as a young man's watch. I love everything about it (case, colors, dial, pushers, principles,...). I am sure Doc will find it as legible as I do! I just hope I won't find it too big on the wr...

Bravo to PP for such a "different" design. However, I really have a problem

An intersting element I find on the movement is that the colum wheel

doas not have a cap. Suibert do you know what they decided to do away with one since they have been using it on all their chrono movements until now?

Yes, the column wheel is unusal.....

Don't care much for this watch!

 By: Greg S : February 7th, 2006-07:19
I think the annual calendar is a reasonable compromise worth considering when one wants to cut costs, and cannot afford a perpetual. But, this will probably be a quite expensive watch. So, having an annual calendar on this watch is like buying a rolls roy...
