Lemania movements in Pateks

May 16, 2012,23:46 PM

Are there still any Pateks currently produced using the modified Lemania movement, or have they all been discontinued?

I am also hearing web chatter from people who owned both Lemania and in house Pateks, and the general opinion seems that the Lemania is a superior movement. Is this your impression as well?

Thanks

I think all are discontinued.

It is probably very difficult to say in an objective way if a Lemania based movement is better or worse than the one made and designed by Patek. The intention was surely not to downgrade the chronograph movements when shifting to fully manufactured ones. ...

5004 / 5970 and 5070 were the last

 By: Bruno.M1 : May 17th, 2012-01:37
which one is the best ? Probably the new one but give me the choice between an 5070 and 5170 and I'll take the 5070 in a heartbeat.

For me...

I will take 5070 and 3970 all day long as well. In terms of collectibility--Lemania based will always be iconic in my mind. Great thing about watch collecting--we all have choices though.

PP 5004 /5970 AND 5070

All these with the Lemenia movement.. Excellent and beautiful pieces. Frankly can't say that of ther 5170. Some how just cant say that it is a beautiful for some reason. Aestically it somehow or other just don't strike Just my views. No offence to those w...

IMO the new movement..

 By: fernando : May 17th, 2012-02:55
hasn't been truly tried and tested yet as it's still relatively new, to make a comparison. Will it be as robust and reliable as the Lemania in the years to come? Time will tell.

I agree

 By: hewitgar : May 17th, 2012-03:33
Right now, it may just be an aesthetic discussion point. The proof of which is mechanically 'better' will take years to establish. But these guys know a thing or two about watch movements! Will Geneva Seal movement watches have a different cache to PP Sea...

Lemania doesn't compare...

 By: murcielago_boy : May 17th, 2012-10:46
Hahahah!!! I love reading the responses of supposedly "objective" and "unbiased" owners. They're always the same. In fact, there is no question that people opinions are being dictated by their own ownership. The factual reality is that Lemanias are comple...

Bravo! Excellent reply...

... agree with you 100%. For owning 5070 and 5270, i can tell you that the new inhouse movement is clearly superior. Jst trigger the chrono, see how it launches and how the hand ticks, and the reset is the smoothest i've ever seen . Without going into tec...

Yes and no.

 By: foversta : May 18th, 2012-03:33
I will make a long story short: yes the technical features of the new movements are far ahead from the Lemania. But in terms of lay-out or finishings, not sure! Patek did it very cleverly: look at the shape of the briges... the new movement is full of cur...

+1. You expressed in perfect words the idea I had bad time

To put in ... English words. Best, Nicolas.

I did not expect that stupid comparison again :-(

Let me guess. You own a 5070 (or a Lemania powered Paterk)?? hahaha. Oh well. Sadly my friend, your mistaken perception of the "stupidity" of the comparison doesn't render such a comparison invalid. There's no fundamental inaccuracy in what I said. What's...

Ha Ha indeed

I also think it is stupid to compare the Lemania in the PP with the lemania in the Omega 321 in the speedy. Base basic ebauche supplied by Lemania to PP and modified and enhanced and finished. Put the PP finished movement next to the Omega 321 and the dif...

I understand 321 , 861 and current 1861 is the same base but

referred to 321 for comparison sake as both are column wheel . Thanks Jerome. Cheers, dreamer

make any type of meaningful judgment and I don't know of many folks who can wear these references regularly enough to have the experience and be in a position to draw an educated conclusion so soon. I would think the Lemania movements would still be in us...

A Patek that runs with the Lemania movement, Personally I think that murcielago_boy has drawn a fair conclusion. But if we were to talk rarity and as a collectors item, I suspect that the Lemania movement fitted to a Patek Phillippe would command an extra...

Two more pictures from a recent thread on here: 5270 (Patek in house) on the left and 5970 (Lemania) on the right. I personally cannot see where Patek have dodged finishing difficulties or where the movement finish has in any way been reduced. Indeed for ...

I think it is pretty clear

 By: tahoeblue : May 18th, 2012-21:57
that in terms of technical prowess the new Patek in-house chrono movement beats the Lemania. Does that mean it is "superior," a term that could also encompass reliability, finish, collectibility, etc as discussed above? That answer gets more complicated, ...

I never knew that the 5970..........

Could have it's displays advanced by the push of a single button. I just believed that they all had to be set separately, as with other PC's & AC's

Well---regardless of what one thinks....

And the debate can go on and on. I will gladly stick with my good old inferior Lemania based. So---To each his own. The great thing about watch collecting is that there are plenty of models to suit everyone's wants and desires. Cheers all and HAGWE!...

Thanks my friend! HAGWE!! Cheers, Ken [nt]

size reduction

 By: watch-er : May 21st, 2012-08:46
I do like the 5170 at 39mm over the 5070 at 42mm, based upon my small wrist. So other things also play a role in watch selection.

Ken, what a brilliant reply.............
