Patek Philippe World Time 5110 P. It is time to celebrate its 8th Birhtday.

Nov 03, 2012,00:57 AM

8 years!

8 years that this World Time is in my collection, now.

8 years of authentic, deep love, admiration.

There is not one thing I hate or just don't like on this watch:

- The size ( 37 mm ), perfect on an average sized wrist like mine, and very " à propos " in any situation, casual or dressy, offering a coherent volume to the watch.

Sublime on a white linen shirt, with some tan...

- The metal ( platinum ), which gives an interesting density to this relative modestly sized watch, very comfortable to wear, once on the wrist.

- The dial, just awesome, with this " guilloché ", catching the light, absolutely captivating to see.

- The Hands, as you won't see them an any other PP model, a kind of stylized sword.

- The case ( Cf above the size part ), and this assymetric shape, to better use the crown whose dimensions make it easy to turn, when you wind the watch or set the Time.

All is in the details...

From the nice Calatrava cross signed crown, to the very discrete diamond between the lugs, at 6, all transpires the care about Quality:

The bezel is not too big nor too small, just ...coherent.

- The case back, which has the good idea to be see through, to allow us to have a look on the movement.

- The movement, the famous Cal 240, nicely decored, with its thick micro rotor, very well proportionned to the size of the case back, and very smooth and silky to wind.

- The complication, which is one of the most friendly and poetic, at the same time... " Travelling without having to move " or promises of great trips all over the world.

- And because a watch is ALSO a strap and a buckle, the platinum simple folding buckle is comfortable and nicely designed with its Calatrava cross...Much nicer than the buckle on the latest World Time, the Ref 5130, shaped ala TAG ( Did this detail change on the latest 5130s, or is it still the case? ).

- The only small detail I would have liked to see improved, on the PP World Time watches ( I use the plural because it was exactly the same with the Ref 5130, and I used to test a lot of them, 5110 and 5130 ) is the feeling of the pusher at 10, that you use to change the timezone

I would have preferred a smoother one, but it is not a real big deal, as the watch is pure magic!

Not one of my favourite Patek, MY favourite " relatively affordable " Patek, by far:

Not hyped at all like the 5070s or the 5131 J or G, so for true passionate people only, homogeneous, charming, offering a friendly complication, still relatively affordable, a .. Jewel.

A jewel which is playing with stars, as it is in the nature of every jewel:

But which also knows how to have fun, far from any pretention:

A perpetual invitation to travels:

... Which has nothing against a good hotel:

The King of the World Time watches, in my not so biased opinion, because I don't objectively see any other which can compete with this Patek.

How many watches in your collection make you feel such a strong feeling that you are able to remember the day you got it, after so many years?

It was the 4rd of November 2004, and I remember the day and the trip to collect it very well.

Best,

 By: dirost : November 3rd, 2012-01:12
You and me will always be OK on this statement : the PP WT is the PP to have ! Of course, it is not a very complicated watch, it doesn't cost a fortune but I don't care. But this watch has a really great charm, and if you like it, you fall in love for a w...

Of course, the beauty of a watch has nothing to see with is value and price.

 By: amanico : November 3rd, 2012-08:50
That is certainly why I love this Patek so much. A watch for true lver, not for flippers. As for the time it is in my galaxy, well, it is long time I don't readt it anymore. I admire it! ;) Best, Nicolas.

Mine is congratulating yours

 By: dr.kol : November 3rd, 2012-02:39
and my feelings towards the watch are also similar to yours. However, there is another travel watch I also felt in love with: I really do not know which one is nicer: 5110P or 5134P. My solution is to have both. They are the same size, same kind of shape,...

Batman and robin Or fish n chips :) You get the idea lol Best Imran

I agree

 By: dr.kol : November 3rd, 2012-04:20
But I can't decide which one is Batman and which one is just the pal and assistant of Batman. You can't imagine how often I am having these two watches side-by-side and try to understand which one is boosting my heart more. Best, Kari

Funny, Kari, as I considered the 5134P for a long time...

 By: amanico : November 3rd, 2012-08:53
I was not able to put my hands on a WT, so the 5134P was easier to find and get. But given the choice between the two, I had no doubts, the 5110P was the watch to get. The 5110P is an icon, with no true contender, IMO. But I hear you on the " practicabili...

It's not only that Nico.

 By: dr.kol : November 3rd, 2012-11:13
The more I look at the dial of 5134P, the nicer it looks. Also the watch is very readable; I can always tell quickly what is the time. Furthermore, the movement does not feel too small but looks really nice on this 37mm watch. And in the end, the winding ...

 By: Dje : November 3rd, 2012-04:13
Hi Imran, There's very little I'd voluntarily sale in my now reduced collection. I had a budget for the 5711 in the spring once my Polaris was sold. I was at the crossroads with PP to buy it but I was alone in fact. Things happen, or not. I'm now back on ...

I know this feeling, my friend, and I know what you mean.

 By: amanico : November 3rd, 2012-08:57
The Nautilus is your dream, while the 5110, no matter its color, certainly is another great choice. The 5110 is also an easier watch to get.... I am wishing you will find YOUR dream watch, one day. As you know, it is a matter of patience, luck, and time. ...

Well there are many watches that I'd still love to own

The PT version is my fav 5110. Due to the contrast between the central part and the cities ring, a smaller diameter works better and it is the reason why, with such configuration, I prefer the 5110. But I don't feel the same with WG and PG versions: I muc...
