Sticking date on my 5127R

 By: carnegie : September 23rd, 2014-22:02
Sadly my 5127R has developed the sticking date issue. The watch just turned 2 years (warranty expired 2 months ago since I purchased it from an AD). However, I have worn the watch only occasionally. Very frustrating. Anyone else with this experience? ...

I had the same with my Aquanaut 5167...

About three years after the purchase. So the warranty had expired and it cost me 1000euro+ to repair. However, the movement is not the same, so it may just be a coincidence. Frustrating, though.

sorry to read this...

...hardly believe that PP didn't handle this simple date function in this rather new watch...if it is occasionally worn in careful manner. hope you could get positive solution from PP soon.

That's really sad..

& much as I admire their watches, legacy & the brand; why does PP insist on continuing with a non hacking watch... Mally

......it is only two months out of warranty, I am sure there will be a goodwill gesture made. Sorry to hear this.

I had a terrible experience 15 years ago with a 5004P. 2 seriuos technical problems at the split!! 2 times to Geneva!! No money problems, PP repaired it twice free and Mr. Stern each time gifted me a PP book for excuses, but I waited 2 TIMES 2 YEARS!!! Pa...

Thank you all...

for you encouraging responses. I really needed them now! I would like to ask those who did have this issue, whether it would happen again after the watch was fixed? Is that a problem with 324 movement that remains or it is just a quality control issue? I ...

Really sorry for you

I can understand your frustration. I really believe this is bad luck, never heard of anything like this. Yes keep us posted of the outcome how PP handles the situation for you. Bon courage my friend. Mike

Try this simple test then send it for repair...

After reading your comments that you wear the watch occasionally, I would suspect that this problem may be due to insufficient power held by the mainspring during the date change period. I suggest that you wind the watch, then force the date to move using...

Winding

I agree. Try winding it up and see how it goes.

unfortunately the watch is fully wound...

Hi guys, thanks for trying to help! Unfortunately, the watch was fully wound. I always give it 40 turns before putting it on (I know Patek recommends 10 but Rolex recommends 40 with the same power reserve of 45-48h). It depends of course in the size of th...

For what it's worth...

I do not believe there should be any limit on how many times you need to wind the movement (even if Patek say 10 times), as that click indicates you're protected against over-winding. One should be able to take a watch from a drawer, wind it to full sprin...

Thanks Mike

for the note. I am surprised you don't wear your 5127 more often. Probably the larger 5146 is in the way:) I will let you guys know how it all works out. The watch is currently with Patek.

Update from Stern Agency NY

 By: carnegie : October 9th, 2014-21:05
Hi guys, Wanted to update you. I sent my watch to Henri Stern Agency in NY. I received the confirmation by mail in 2 days that my watch safely arrived and I will be contacted asap, once it has been evaluated. I was contacted today (in 3 more days), that P...

 By: echauhan : March 28th, 2015-09:56
Hi, my Calatrava 5153J with the 324 movement has the sticking date, will be going for service as it's still under warranty, was wondering if the original forum poster's repair was completed, how long it took, and if the sticking date issue is cured or sti...

All is fixed! Great job from Patek

Got my watch back in less than 9 weeks. It's all fixed and running perfectly. Very happy with the service. My watch was out of warranty but Patek fixed it free of charge and gave it complete service. Very happy with everything.

great to hear it's fixed running well !

nice to hear that fix didn't take forever and they honored the warranty past expiry! any way of knowing what was the issue causing the sticking date ?

I was only told that the watch needed complete service. It looks like this is the answer that most of us got when this happened. Someone here said he has the reason but never told me what it was.

Happy for you!

The people up at Henri Stern are very nice and I'm pleased to hear they are going to take care of the issue. Though we want and expect our timepieces to run perfectly from time to time there are issues with them.

Several points

PP uses a very fine oil but thin oil which tends to dry quicker than oils used by other brands. Regular wearing helps prevents sticking problems. These watches are meant to be worn, perhaps more so than others. Periodically putting the watch on a winder w...

Re let me clarify

 By: carnegie : March 29th, 2015-20:24
Let me clarify here that my watch was only 1 month past the 2 year warranty so it was not really that old. Also, my AD ordered a brand new one for me when I got it (it was double sealed). Overwinding or under winding was not the issue here. The watch woul...

sticking date fixed in 6 weeks

 By: echauhan : May 21st, 2015-14:01
the sticking date on the caliber 324 SC on my 5153 was repaired under warranty and back in 6 weeks! A step in the right direction for Patek. Seems like they may be prioritizing warranty work these days. Just got it back yesterday, but running about 5 seco...
