I start to understand.

 By: dr.kol : February 27th, 2015-02:03
I took my new 5711 for the first sea trip. There is something very special in the dial. At least I check it all the time. This one will stay on my wrist for weeks. Best, Kari...

welcome Kari in the mad Nautilus world

Thank you for the welcome

I have been a "Nautilus owner" for about 10 years. However, I did not earlier see any reasons to go for 5711 because I have my loved 3712. Now when I have 5711 on my wrist, I start to understand the magic: the dial is so clean and it's changing its colour...

yes!! The fumé dial is spectacular, almost as if...

It is about to reveal some mystery!! Love this piece! HAGWE, S

So do I. But

 By: dr.kol : February 27th, 2015-05:15
I could easily change it to your salmon dial RO. I have been searching for that but still without success. Nautilus 5711 is a bit elusive but still available after some efforts. Best, Kari

Different for the time...

but today a true classic. I don't blame you for your dial mesmerization at all.

Power shots Kari!

from your pics, now I also start to understand why the classic Nautilus is so popular. Just pure class. Without the need for any complications. Your photos bring out the best in this watch! Thanks for sharing with us my friend :) Cheers Robin

It will be with me next time in Singapore.

A maritime watch in its element, beautiful!

 By: sanzaw : March 1st, 2015-05:31
True to its namesake, the Nautilus looks comfortably at home on seafaring vessels! Looks great on you, Kari!

Indeed a maritime watch!

I have about 1.5 million dwt of tankers in my company. When I will visit one of them, I'll take some pictures of Nautilus onboard. I have spent so many days of my life onboard that I am perfectly happy ashore and just look at the dial. Still, the dial of ...

It is a beauty on the first view ...

 By: small-luxury-world : March 1st, 2015-07:49
and maybe it gets underrated on the second view (by some), but to appreciate the real beauty it needs time. Same as with good wine. It needs some time to come to the peak ... :-) Enjoy the trip! Oliver

Let's see - I will give the time but

not like to my wine collection: most of my wines are cellared in London. And I'm not in a hurry to take those home because I do not drink wine. Best, Kari

Maiden Voyage...

 By: patrick_y : March 4th, 2015-09:52
Is it a maiden voyage for the boat or for the watch? Or perhaps for both?

If only...

 By: ciaca : March 16th, 2015-03:50
The movement was special too as the dial is, it was perfect! I like a lot the updated design of the nautilus family with those curved flanks that appear to me more convincing and harmonious than the old straight ones designed by Gerald Genta. But i don't ...

I mostly agree.

 By: dr.kol : March 16th, 2015-05:34
And I am not very impressed with the accuracy: the first week the watch was fast, now for two weeks it has been slow. Anyhow, a wonderful wrist experience. Best, Kari

thank you

 By: ciaca : March 16th, 2015-07:17
For Your feedback. My concerns are not mostly related to the accuracy (which should be just a regulation issue very common nowadays they make more than 55.000 pieces per year) but to the general architecture (pretty ordinary) and finishing of the movement...

I am worried about accuracy;

 By: dr.kol : March 16th, 2015-12:30
first my watch was 5 seconds fast per day and from the second week in average 3.6 seconds slow per day. I have much steadier watches. Nautilus 5711 is really wonderful but in my opinion the movement does not fully correspond with the overall quality of th...

to correct time (in fact minus 1 sec. because there are no hacking seconds). I will try to follow it every evening @ 23. It is funny, I have some issues with my Royal Oaks but the accuracy is much better than my Nautilus 3712 & 5711. But more about th...

My 3712 used to be very accurate when I bought it new,

 By: dr.kol : March 16th, 2015-15:25
it was also very accurate after its first service some three years ago. But not anymore. It looks like my 5711 is not very accurate but it's a new watch. I hope it will "settle". Best, Kari

Indeed, new watches are said to need a "settleing" time when new.

By: Mark in Paris : March 16th, 2015-15:28
Hope it will improve its accuracy in the next months Kari. Cheers, Mark.

I have really experienced the "settling" earlier

 By: dr.kol : March 16th, 2015-15:31
and now my 5711 is under loupe. Best, Kari

I have to disagree ...

 By: small-luxury-world : March 16th, 2015-12:12
as I don´t think it would make sense to use the cal. 240 for a simple watch without complication. The cal. 240 was introduced in 1977 as a thin base movement for their perpetual calendars ... and it is also kind of small for today. The idea of a (NEW) mic...

The 240

 By: ciaca : March 16th, 2015-13:42
Caliber was introduced as an ultrathin automatic winding movement in order to substitute the JLC920 ebauche which AP and VC let Patek to use in their 3700 (and some other models) having the exclusive right and ownership of the movement itself. In order to...

Are other simple models without any complication housing the caliber 240 actually in production Regards This message has been edited by ciaca on 2015-03-16 14:36:51

True.

 By: dr.kol : March 16th, 2015-15:22
but 240 is perhaps not the strongest movement for a sporting watch. Something new is needed; something with hacking seconds. Most of Patek's base movements are either very old and/or small compared with the cases PP is using. If Patek wants to be successf...

I mostly agree

 By: ciaca : March 16th, 2015-16:46
The 240, like every other ultra thin movement, is not a workhorse of course. But Patek has never produced professional watches which have in strength and robustness their prerogative. It's not their target and i think it shouldn't neither because there ar...

Patek has been forced to reduce their prices

 By: dr.kol : March 17th, 2015-01:16
in many markets. Also the inventories of the AD are pretty full. It's also possible to get brand new PP from grey dealers with remarkable rebates. The prices of 2nd hand Pateks are inflating... All these are clear signs that the supply exceeds the demand....

I agree again

 By: ciaca : March 17th, 2015-04:50
You're right, again. The signals are all converging in that direction, but the question is: how all this reflects in terms of gain reduction? I guess not much. Pumping up production volumes create ecomy of scale, margins on the single piece grow up a lot,...

I partly agree.

Their Stern is a very pleasant chap. However, in my opinion the brand image of Patek Philippe has suffered a lot during his regime. I do not start making a list but as I see it there is a long list of wrong decisions and product launches. "If it isn't bro...

Huge discounts...

I saw what they will publish.

Their pilot's watch makes me absolutely speechless. But there are also good news: Brands with better design and better finishing of their movements are often much cheaper. Somehow I hear a new sound in my head: "Lange, he I come". Best, Kari

Let's see it again....

I wish you are right

I know you don't. Sad, but true. There will be time, for sure, to talk about it :-)

It's bad, very bad.

 By: dr.kol : March 17th, 2015-15:07
But being an optimist, I hope to buy a nice new watch from Patek's 2016 Nautilus collection. Best, Kari
