That "stream of consciousness" (very elegantly put by the way) where model numbers are abled to be rattled off is just a crazy amount of nerd-like knowledge for the various watch brands and their models. I'm probably a mildly obsessed individual, and many people talk to me about watches, so it's an active memory that I've built up from all the practice and exercise I've gotten over the years. It may be a good thing to know all of the watch model numbers to the various brands, but outside of the watch community, others will look at someone with that capability as some sort of strange individual.
I could tell you that I also know all the various Porsche 911 car iterations including the air-cooled versions. Unless you're a car person, it probably doesn't excite you much.
There are definitely different schools of thought on the matter of soliciting advice from strangers; but yes, I don't think it's wise to let an audience advise you on certain things. It's like if I go onto an investments blog and just randomly ask what kind of stocks and funds I should invest in and not mention my investment style and risk tolerance.
When you ask an audience for advice, you inevitably get more opinion than fact. I like to deal in facts, not opinions.
There's a company here in Silicon Valley worth billions of dollars called YELP. Yelp is a platform that allows individuals whom have no experience nor any expertise give their opinion on just about any business; business to consumer mostly. In the end, you get a tremendous amount of unqualified people whom make long-winded opinionated comments about their experience (usually dining experiences, which is already subjective to begin with). I would advise users of YELP to be cautious and keep in mind the quality of the reviews and the quality of the reviewers. When I was in grade school, I was taught to read critically and to hunt for bias.
