The numerals are not applied. I'm not sure "embossed" is the right term either. The numerals are apart of the dial itself, and allowed to extrude as the part of the dial that is not numerals is reduced. Somewhere I read the term "spark erosion at the molecular level" is involved in some way - above my pay grade but the result is quietly spectacular. I took the photo at this angle to show off this exact brilliance. Also, if that's not enough, the numerals themselves then get mirror-polished and as you tilt/rotate the watch one sees some numerals go "dark" and others reflect brightly, almost twinkling. Lots to look at and boggles my mind...
Oh, and then there are the reduced-size "7" and "8" making way for the seconds. My oh my...

This pic is as close as I can get and shows the numerals rising out of the dial, not "applied". Somewhat hard to see with just naked eye. And although the numerals look painted remember they are mirror-polished, just not reflecting anything in the pic. ...
