For me, prefer Non in house movement

but would make and exception for 372 because of its closeness to the vintage Pam DNA. If I wanted a seconds hand then the 127 is tops. Just my opinion.

Panerai PAM 422, the new Fiddy?

Very close to the Fiddy, unveiled at the SIHH 2012. With some differences, such as the in house movement instead of the ETA, and the ecru indices. Funny that the 127 is still in the conversations, while the 422 is almost a forgotten one. Best, Nicolas...

Beautiful shot.

I did of course choose the 372, but did give thought to this one.

Yes, I was also wrong thinking 372...

All these PAMs in my head over many years, crazy to think of how much our personal mental databases hold!! LOL.

And the PAM 422 does not have that silly 1950 on the dial

that was the one thing that really bothered me with the Fiddy. GEO

So close and yet so different...

... the 127 had a nicer dial texture and the complete 3/6/9/12 configuration as well as this fantastic super-domed crystal, the 422 is more comfortable to wear, though. As others have mentioned, at the time it was introduced the Fiddy stood out, as did 21...

Why is the 422 more comfortable to wear ?

Would be interested is your experiences on that.

The rather conspicuous absence of the 9...

condamned this model to oblivion. Don't get me wrong, it's still a rather handsome model but IMO, the 372 is perceived as possessing a purer DNA. If you add that they also released the 423 and it's awful PR (a-la 123), both the non-372 models have been so...

For me, prefer Non in house movement

As to the 422 it's an awesome watch, one of my favourite PAMs.

Not sure why they didn't add a "9"

On the 422... Would have made the watch very interesting with New movt and PR indicator on back... IMHO all 47mm need to have all 3,6,9,12 on dial. No excuse... There is definitely enough space!

They copied the Luminor Marina look, in the 47mm/1950 case's range.

On occasions, in this day and age, the attempt to please more and more people requires a bit ot..tinkering and twiching.. with the main models.

+1. [nt]
