3861 for my 50th
Should have posted this months ago but here it is.
In March I turned 50 and my wife wanted to purchase a watch for me (I bought myself a DD40 YG for my 50th)
I told her I would like a 3861 Speedmaster Sapphire Sandwich. Ive always loved the Speedy and had some nice vintage examples but never liked wearing them.
I guess it was size and I just don't tend to wear nice vintage pieces too much so I picked the 3861 since it was a little bigger and I would wear it a lot more.
She decided to surprise me with a trip and set up for me to drive an Indy car at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Of course I had to wear the Speedy.
Below is a pic of me in the race suit just before I got into the car.
It was an amazing experience where I drove for 45 minutes and hit 164 mph (the fastest of any of the Indy drivers that day)
I wear the speedy at least a couple times a week and love it.
I have had a few Daytonas over the years and always sell them as they just have never done it for me for several reasons (I don't like the minute subdial as it does not have 5 hash marks for 5 minutes, it wears small and just never makes me smile).
I find the 3861 my favorite chrono that I can wear and enjoy.
Anyway, that is my rant....

That's the only Speedmaster I would go for: the shape and design of the moon watch, the modernity with the coaxial movement, and the see-through cashback to enjoy the heart of the watch! One day i'll get one! Best, E.
