5130

The dilemma is simple enough to resolve. Although cost appears to be a consideration, it would appear from your description that it is not a deterrent. In addition to the weight of the platinum, there is the appearance. I am a proud owner of the 5130P and the difference in appearance is what tipped the scales for me.

Survey: is the price premium for pt worth it?

 By: eric_s : February 28th, 2008-03:05
I am buying a 5130. I have been offered both the WG and Pt versions. Although I love the weight of the platinum model, I feel like the 40% premium is too much. I know it is what it is...but need your help to push me over the edge on the pt model...anythin...

IMHO, the WG is better and nicer, and you know me, if I say that, as I love platinum watches in general... Why? Simple... Look at the 2 dials, of the WG and the platinum version... You got it? The center of thedial of the 5130P, in a quite nice blue grey,...

ahh...but that weight and feel of pt is drawing me....

Agree with you on the wright of the platinum, which is very well inversely proportionned with the weight of your wallet when you buy it...LOL! If they had made a bigger blue zone on the middle of the dial, I''d go on it... But in this case, The WG is more...

as President of Patek WT Lovers association...you are supposed to love them all equally and unconditionally...warts and all... Only Pt for me... cheers! sh...

I too love the platinum, sh

Indeed, I'l a bit excessive, sh, about this 5130P...I think I never owned the 5110P, I'd hesitate a lot between the WG or the Platinum version... I NEVER said that the 5130P is a ugly watch!LOL Best, sh, and enjoy it, you platinum guy! Nicolas...

Looks like you want us to convince you to pick up the platinum,eh? he, he. Always buy what you like within your budget. I love platinum over white gold but there are some Pateks that I'd rather have the white gold over the platinum. However, this is not o...

i dont' think so...

My feeling is similar... buy what you can afford but it ultimately depends on what type of collector you are... if you're into the movements then the casing is secondary... if you're into the dials then again the casing is secondary (although the PT piece...

I think this issue is not simple -

 By: dr.kol : September 23rd, 2012-03:21
it depends on the watch. I.e. 5196P and 5196G are having totally different dial and there it makes a lot of sense to buy the platinum if you like the dial. At the same time i.e. 5054P and G share the same dial and the watches look very similar. I don't se...

Patek now produces platinum watches with

distinct dials which, at a glance, anyone who knows Patek will recognize the watch to be platinum or white gold. Is that a factor to you? If you were considering a 3960 (ignore the limited production numbers for the moment) for instance, where the w/g and...

PT vs WG

 By: Grisar : September 23rd, 2012-05:46
It's difficult. In general, I prefer PT much better than WG for multiple reasons. 1) 95% pure material than 75%. 2) A lot heavier than WG (for me a plus point). 3) Long-lasting shining color compared to non plated WG or plated WG. 4) Rarity. Whether it's ...

It depends on how much the money means to you

 By: dr.kol : September 23rd, 2012-05:59
If you have a clear target where to use the price difference, go for the white gold. I mean that if you can give something to your wife she is dreaming about or something for the kids, why to spend the money to the more expensive model! The price differen...
