Some quick pictures of the 5140P.

 By: amanico : May 15th, 2013-13:21
A good friend came to Paris to pick this marvel and to achieve one of his dream watches. I must say that I am very happy for him, and also happy to have been hable to play with this watch a bit, outside the quiet salon of a Patek Boutique, under the cloud...

sexy!

 By: Fricks : May 15th, 2013-13:25
where is the wristshot under the cloudy sky? That blue is different than the 5070P and 5960P... maybe in between those 2. What do you think?

I would have to compare them side by side, to be accurate.

 By: amanico : May 15th, 2013-13:27
But I would say that the 5140P dial is a tad darker. Sexy, yes. Best, Nicolas.

A great watch!

Thank you for taking those beautiful pictures. Sometimes I wonder why you became a lawyer because you could have earned your living in an honest way by becoming a photographer! Best regards from Tallinn where the weather is so much better than in Paris......

A reconversion is always possible. Not sure that I will gain enough money, though.

Thanks for all, my friend. It was good to meet you! All the best. Nicolas

We meet again soon...

Hopefully it's not going to snow then again in Paris. Best, Kari

I think I know this lucky owner....

I was waiting to see his new toy and this doesn't disappoint at all.... one lucky, lovely guy :) I look forward to more pics. Yours, Andy.

Congratulation

A fantastic watch. I would love a side by side with the 5070 and 5960 for dials. Again - congratulations

This we can sort. [nt]

I believe I know this lucky owner too. 'Grats! But a question...

 By: no_frills : May 15th, 2013-13:40
... does the 5140P have the little diamond at the bottom? It doesn't look that way from the pictures...

Can you see the diamond in this picture you posted?

 By: no_frills : May 15th, 2013-13:46
Because that little dot I see at 6'o clock is the moonphase pusher, right? Sorry, must be blind. ...

What a lovely work of art

 By: meatrackmd : May 15th, 2013-14:53
Flawless execution, and not a bad cameraman either

Oh no, no, I got it. It's at 12 o'clock I think!

 By: no_frills : May 15th, 2013-13:49
Because the moonphase pusher gets in the way at 6'o clock, 'no? It's not a problem to put the diamond at 6'o clock in, say, the 5970P because the moonphase pusher is not precisely at 6'o clock... it's actually at 0:32. Whereas for the 5140 (and the 3940) ...

Personally, I see three pushers at 12 o clock on one of my hi res picctures. + 1 at

 By: amanico : May 15th, 2013-13:52
9 o clock... Then the diamond must be at 6 o clock. Best, Nicolas.

Yes, the 12'o clock is the "question"

 By: no_frills : May 15th, 2013-13:55
... are those three pushers at 12'o clock? Or is that the diamond in the middle, where they preserve the moonphase pusher at the very bottom? I don't know much about the mechanisms of the cal 240 but I'm suspecting that given where the moonphase indicator...

Leica D Lux 4...

I almost took 50 000 pics with it! Best, Nicolas

I happen to know the answer...

 By: dr.kol : May 15th, 2013-14:11
5120P is the only platinum Patek with the diamond at 12 o'clock. Best, Kari

You could have asked me over 2 years ago already

 By: dr.kol : May 15th, 2013-14:31
Since 5140P was introduced in Baselworld 2010 - over 3 years ago - I have been dreaming about this watch. However, I have always wondered if the dial is too "jewelry-like". Another issue is that the price is salty. One could easily say that a new 5140P is...

Remember Oscar Wilde's quote about price and value.

 By: amanico : May 15th, 2013-21:52
If you decided to go for it, it is because the watch was worth it, and your pleasure commanded to do so. What is more important than that? Best, Nicolas

Wednesday was a good day for both of us!

 By: dr.kol : May 15th, 2013-21:58
I learned the quote of Oscar Wilde and you learned to know that one Patek has the diamond at 12. So we learn every day and I wonder what might today bring. Best, Kari

Beautiful !

Hi Nico, I find you quite severe in saying that the 5140 looses in elegance. Nice shots, thanks for sharing. Best Didier

Comparatively speaking, yes. Is it still elegant? yes.

 By: amanico : May 15th, 2013-21:54
More or the same as a 3940? No, in my opinion, at least. A bit the same than 5110 compared to 5130. Best, my friend. Nicolas.

Most balanced perpetual calendar

 By: Grisar : May 15th, 2013-17:06
5140 along with 3940 is the most balanced and beautiful perpetual. Excellent pictures and big congrats on the owner.

As usual, beautiful pix Nico! But it looks like

 By: Mech : May 15th, 2013-17:25
a YG or RG on my computer screen? It looked like a Dufour 5140 combo, hahahha. Perhaps some adjustment on the WB will bring out its true colors? :) Mech.

The case comes white on my screen. No doubt about that.

You made me doubt! ;) Best, Nicolas

Congratulations to the new owner.........

And thanks to Nicolas for posting the article & photos. :)

Thanks for viewing!

My favourite retirement watch as I can not wear any watch during work and as the costs of it make only "sense" if one can wear it daily. Just owning it does not make justice to the watch nor the owner. Although a big YG fan and more a Lange platinum watch...

Very nice watch and pictures!

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : May 16th, 2013-19:06
Thanks Nicholas for sharing these pictures! I always thought I was done with PP with my 5146R but it looks like there are much more desirable pieces that are worth me saving up for (for yeaaaaaars)! really love your pictures, very well taken Cheers, robin...

is worth the price?

 By: fabios : May 17th, 2013-00:03
I really doubt it. You can can buy this combo at the same price and I really much prefer to own a 3940G plus a 3940R. Nothing about the watch: a wonderful perpetual! Fabio ...

I have been wondering just the same!

 By: dr.kol : May 17th, 2013-00:21
Is a 5140P worth of 3940R plus 3940G? Probably not! But do you wear 3940R and 3940G at the same time? Probably not! Would I rather wear 5140P or one of the golden 3940 perpetuals? Probably the platinum watch. Is it nicer to own and service two perpetuals ...

Great post in my biased opinion!

Thank you Nicolas for your wonderful writeup and photos. Indeed, it's all about the mating of blue and platinum to create a profoundly unique and beautiful contrast in this timepiece. As nice as it appears in photos, its physical appearance when viewed on...
