 By: geross : June 2nd, 2016-07:30
Cheers Joe. Geross. ...

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 2nd, 2016-07:38

By: COUNT DE MONET : June 2nd, 2016-08:24
Not only blue but also textured night sky.

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 2nd, 2016-08:25
...i just keep staring at it.

Incredible details

 By: alphabeta81 : June 2nd, 2016-08:25
Lovely and the attention to detail is sublime

Truly impressive dear Joe

 By: Ares501 - Mr Green : June 2nd, 2016-08:43

I see it now and I concur :) [nt]

 By: Ares501 - Mr Green : June 2nd, 2016-13:31

Let's wait for padj to concur . . .

 By: Dr No : June 2nd, 2016-14:06
. . . so that Joe can take the message down entirely. This is, after all, a Purists forum . . . that's not a phrase we'd share at a cocktail party.

There are cocktail parties and then...

 By: Ares501 - Mr Green : June 6th, 2016-08:15
there are cocktail parties I obviously attend wrong ones

2 things

By: Mark in Paris : June 2nd, 2016-13:51
First, this is amazing and it is the first time I see such moonphase version from Patek. It seems it is a disk maybe striken with a little tool in order to make these little "holes" in the material. Then painted (or else?), stars are framed in black... wh...

Simply fantastic!

 By: dr.kol : June 2nd, 2016-14:33
Looks like the current production watches can't reach the past levels. Best, Kari

i think modern offers something that vintage cannot and vice-versa

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 2nd, 2016-23:38
I was certainly surprised and happy when i took a lok under a loupe to see the texture of the moonphase.

That's for sure.

 By: dr.kol : June 2nd, 2016-23:57
Vintage Patek offers some of the most appealing models but the prices... The good news is that the current collection will be vintage in a couple of decades but then I'm not around anymore. Best, Kari

you say "prices", Kari.....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 3rd, 2016-00:09
......yet for many really lovely vintage pieces, prices are below the modern equivalents. Take the most recent offering of the world time. I think it is stunning. I would like to get one. Yet, a 5110 can be found for less money. Significantly less. In an ...

When WT or Calatrava are concerned,

 By: dr.kol : June 3rd, 2016-03:12
that's true. When we speak about Grand Complications, the picture starts to change. WT 5110 is an interesting watch. With a little bit of work, J, G and R can be found at around 20 k - newline watches with all papers and open Certificate. Just add 1k for ...

yes.....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 3rd, 2016-03:40
.....the 5110s are too young to be classed as vintage, but they are getting there. I have also noticed that once the 5130 was once seen as a more desirable model because of its size. The consensus on this forum is that the 5110 eclipses the 5130 on most l...

The enamel work in 5131G is fine but not perfect.

 By: dr.kol : June 3rd, 2016-05:12
I normally do not like coloured metals too much but just some days ago I compared 5110P & R and I must admit that in some watches the rose gold version is very attractive. The colour of gold combined with some blue on the dial makes a cool combination. Bo...

Hi Kari, geniuses think alike! I mentioned in this forum several times the 5131P should be a view from...

 By: GLau : June 3rd, 2016-05:40
the North Pole ! Also, I recently conveyed my suggestion to a Patek executive. Let\'s see if I qualify as a dial designer for Patek. LOL! Cheers Gordon

Due to the technique Patek is using

 By: dr.kol : June 3rd, 2016-07:36
and because of the small size of the dial, the covered area can't be too big. Furthermore, a white North Pole surrounded by blue sea (=summer view) would look cool. Best, Kari

wishful thinking???

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 3rd, 2016-07:39
But to be fair...the 5131P will be a killer I think

I don't believe there will be 5131P

 By: dr.kol : June 3rd, 2016-07:43
but 5231P will start a new tradition. Yes, wishful thinking also from my side. Best, Kari

hang on.....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 3rd, 2016-08:27
...you don't think there will be a 5131P? Really....why not? I thought it was very close to production?

Because 5230.

 By: dr.kol : June 3rd, 2016-09:04
The case is nicer and I think Patek needs the maximum attention to this new reference. Best, Kari

My idea too but I'm afraid it would be too small

By: Mark in Paris : June 3rd, 2016-08:51
not in a way it is not possible to make but the cloisonné work would be much less detailed and precise. They'll have to design very roughly the shores and you'll only be able to "guess" the region we talk about. Thus, the J, G and R will be much more appe...

Pt version should be best looking

 By: dr.kol : June 3rd, 2016-09:05
and that makes it hard. Best, Kari

Pt (all Pateks into account) has not always been the best looking one

By: Mark in Paris : June 3rd, 2016-09:12
... though it is a subjective matter. Some designs, shapes or colors will suit better with colored gold and others will need a non-colored one thus a G or Pt. White colors attenuates shapes and RG material pushes forward shapes and curves a much better wa...

tend to agree

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 3rd, 2016-09:35
I like white metal as a basic premise, but once the metal is decided....then a whole ramge of other factors need to come into confluence. 5130P didn't work for me at all. On the other hand, I err away from coloured metal, but on some watches it is simply ...

I partly agree

 By: dr.kol : June 3rd, 2016-09:37
but in most cases I like pt Patek most if all metals are available. Think: 5196 5110 (questionable) 5070 5170 5130 5140 5146 5975... Mostly I love the pt model more than others. I think that Patek is always trying to shine with the dials of platinum model...

Coloured metals....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 3rd, 2016-05:57
....I used to have the same rule. 95% of my collection was white metal...mainly steel... However, over the last 2 years I have added a couple of coloured metals and I find it works on a number of levels. Firstly, diversity. I like having options that are ...

RG + blue or YG + black are winning combos.

 By: dr.kol : June 3rd, 2016-07:40
I have always loved 5110P. It was my third Patek. But let's be honest: it's difficult to read the time. WG look very sober, nearly pale while RG is readable and elegant. Anyhow, I'm trying to avoid coloured metals and gold in general. Acquiring nice steel...

Well, if you really consider a possible purchase in the future, I can only recommend that

By: Mark in Paris : June 3rd, 2016-09:04
you see the R before deciding. Here is the model of a friend purist. Another one possessing a Pt told me that I also had to see the R. To make it simple this is my favorite of the 4 versions. Cheers, Mark ...

Perhaps...

 By: dr.kol : June 3rd, 2016-09:08
I have been playing with coloured gold lately and it looks kind of "fresh" to me. It's interesting to note that i.e. AP introduced a new series of YG watches and I wonder if that means that yellow is coming back. Best, Kari

Just stunning...

 By: daytonaman799 : June 4th, 2016-07:48
Joe, thats phenomenal. What a great closeup. The handwork there is simply beautiful. To me thats a piece of art that rivals any painting.

it is mesmerising......and....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 4th, 2016-09:01
