3970 with Arabic numerals - Thoughts, Opinions?

By: Thurmond Von Ripper : February 2nd, 2013-14:36
I go back and forth on this variant of the 3970. I generally like Arabic numerals so I'm repeatedly drawn to this style. But I also feel like the watch is trying to be something that its not. At first glance, it looks like a 5004, and can even appear to b...

I quite like it.

I would simply take two pictures - the standard 3970 and the one with Arabic numerals and have a look at those side-by-side several times a day. Then do that again next day and again a day after till I would know for sure. Deciding what you really like is...

I agree

Yes, I use a similar 'simmering' technique where my computer's back ground image cycles through images of the watches that I'm contemplating. The issue I'm having with the 3970 Arabic, is that I've been simmering on this watch for more that two years! Usu...

I have noticed that

when I am not sure in relatively short time, the watch is never going to be one of my favorites. Nowadays I am skipping these watches. Best, Kari

But to each his own. I love this dial and the watch overall aesthetics very appealing to me. As for valuation: I have only seen one sell that had the dial with paperwork from Patek showing changed dial and price was same as normal dial. Cheers, ...

Dial Variations of the 3970

 By: Roni M : February 2nd, 2013-23:22
What were the special order dial variations on the 3970? Has anyone ever seen one with Breguet numbers? Salmon dial like the 5004? Thanks Roni

At first glance............

I liked it with the Arabic numbers, but then the more I scrolled back between the photo that Ken enclosed, the more I realised that I much preferred the baton dial. It appeared to me that the dial was top heavy, were the baton dial was more equally balanc...

This is a big part of my lack of confidence.

> What were the special order dial variations on the 3970? I don't know the answer to this question. Is/was the Arabic dial change to the 3970 something that was offered as a true factory variant? Or was the idea just something people stumbled across w...

Hi Thurmond! I usually prefer arabic numerals, but this time I find them a bit too big. In general, I think they are slightly out of proportion. In particular, I don't like the "10" to be attached to the subdial at 9. That said, this variant of the 3970 r...
