Need guidance purchasing a 5159; Where/how/what!

Dec 01, 2013,19:14 PM

So after a couple of years of saving, I'm ready to buy a brand new 5159J. I have a considerable number of Rolex watches and a few other brands (Omega, Tissot, Tag), but this is my first ever Patek purchase and I need guidance and advice on the following.

1) Where in the world would I find the best price with a full manufacturer's warranty? Due to my work nature I can fly for virtually no or very little money, so going anywhere in the world isn't an issue at all. I could use a little vacation anyway.

2) I want my new watch to be factory sealed. No particular reason for this except that I would feel much better knowing that my new watch has not been touched since it left the factory smile How hard is this, and are there any special arrangements required to get a sealed one?

3) What are the rules of haggling? I haggled for every expensive object I own except maybe the steel Rolex Daytona. What discount percentage should I consider a good deal when buying the 5159J?

4) If I needed to reserve one and wait. How do I go about this in a way that guarantees I won't be toyed with? I would hate to put a deposit then have a dealer play me for much longer than agreed without having an option to go elsewhere. It happened in the past when I was quoted 3-4 months and paid, then I had to wait for 18 months hearing one rubbish story after another!

Any other information or suggestions is highly appreciated, and please don't write anything that goes against the rules not to get this thread locked and preventing me from getting the needed advice. Thank you very much.

... the more i looked for the best deals, the less it was. Don't try to outsmart the pros in the 2nd market. You want a sealed watch? No worries, some of them can re-seal it. Its your 1st patek, make it an event. If i were you, i'd go to geneva, to the Pa...

5159 should not be a difficult watch to acquire directly from an AD, brand new / sealed!! I believe the retail here in US is around $99k and sometime you might be able to find one available I'm stock with the larger ADs. One of my friends bought a brand n...

Thanks for the input. If I go and buy from Patek Salon in Geneva, would they give me the VAT refund form for when I leave the country? Regards

Naturally!

If you live anywhere in the EU, you will get the Swiss VAT refunded, but Swiss customs will automatically send the info to your country so they can collect tax when you return back home. If you live outside the EU, then it is up to you to pay tax to your ...

Just go and buy it from your local retailer. Considering all the top notch service you require, it's better to go local than abroad. Number 2 may be unreasonable. Number 3 may make you unbearable, it depends how thick your skin is. You should focus less o...

However, there are very good authorized retailers and there are not that good. I have experienced, unfortunately, the latter. The buyer can be very sure that everything is right in PP Salons and Geneva Salon is on the top. Furthermore, a visit to Geneva c...

I don't. Not with my AD. I get great service, fair price and did I mention, great service? However not all are sealed but if I wanted a sealed one, I could get it. May I suggest that you do your homework, your due diligence before you buy from wherever yo...

Making a purchase of this magnitude with possibly additional pieces in the future, I would think establishing a relationship with a jeweler is paramount. And that is a two way street which means more than simply spending a large sum on your part, and more...
