 By: dr.kol : September 12th, 2012-15:58
"GRISAR" asked me last Monday to send a couple of more pictures of the three watches that I just took out from the service of Patek Philippe in Geneva. Here are the pictures plus a couple of words before that. First a sad story with happy end: In the end ...

Enjoy!

They look like pampered pieces! Enjoy! We all hear horror stories.

You are on your way to enjoy 5 new nice years

and concerning the service, you won't have to convince me! I guess someone who tries to make deals with his watches won't have the same thoughts of course, but for someone who is wiiling to keep his watches in the long term, servicing is not a too expensi...

When I'm looking at the watches I'm keeping,

all of those are fully serviced according to the recommendations of the Manufacturer. I think it would be stupid to pay a huge amount for a watch and then start to risk the the functionality and value of the same. The other side is that if one owns i.e. 7...

Heed Dr Kol's advice...

Agree that it makes a lot of financial sense to have your Patek serviced every five years. I will take mine four years from now, and I would not hesitate based on the reasoning provided. Thanks for sharing!

Such an interesting post! Thank you, Kari.

And congratulations on the "new" watches, especially the gorgeous 5054P!

Servicing ...

is an important topic for me. Quite often people treat their watches like "shit", something they would never do with their car (at least in Germany). If you can´t afford the service you shouldn´t buy the watch - total cost of ownership is not only buying....

Thanks Oliver,

An AD in Finland who sold me several Breguet, Vacheron, JLC and Rolex had a system that they promised to remind me always when it's time to take a watch for service. Unfortunately this was not a policy of the shop but just of the manager for his "good" cl...

Thank you!

Dear Dr. Kol, Thank you for sharing nice pictures and your story. I have no doubt that service is necessary for good performance of any watch. Very happy to hear that the service standard at Patek remains very high. I just sent two of my watches (5100G an...

Patek 5196

 By: dr.kol : September 14th, 2012-11:09
is a very nice watch. But 5196P is simply outstanding. I placed a navy blue strap to mine and bought a folding clasp. Now it's a dream. So if you can afford it, take a look. Best, Kari

Service costs is what keep some people from buying PP, however, I really don't

think servicing an averagely complicated PP is any more expensive than servicing a vintage Rolex (£650 or so + parts)...
