nonsense
Jun 17, 2011,07:17 AM
This particular criticism of the mini-rotor is nonsensical and uninformed. firstly, separate the issue of efficiency of wind from power: once the rotor powers the spring, its job is done. If you're worried about the ability of the watch powering complications, you should be discussing the power transmission issues from the spring onward not the rotor. Secondly, the mini rotor system runs far more complicated watches such as ref 5074 and 5013 without any problems.

Most of the times we know which new watches will be made. Or at least we get info on forums like these Now, this one ?? A 5235 white gold annual calendar regulator ---- never seen or even heard of it untill half an hour ago This was in the new Patek magaz...
Interesting - news to me
By: Nomer : June 9th, 2011-13:12
I've not heard of this watch nor have I received my magazine! Not immediately attractive to me (personally averse to off-center labels) but like much with Patek, it needs to be seen in person no doubt. best, Hugh
Movement
By: aaronm : June 9th, 2011-15:34
Originally I thought it was just a recut 240, with different bridges, but although the overall layout is close, the wheels don't appear to line-up. Very unusual if Patek has decided "meh, we won't bother promoting an entirely new watch/caliber" A
I quote the magazine

Genesis of a new movement Patek Philippe has a iverse portfolio of manufacture calibers. However, none of them perfectly duited the annual calendar regulator ref 5235, and do the companu neede to develop a new movement. The tesult is reminiscent in many re...
The movement is that thin.. not the whole watch
By: Mostel : June 10th, 2011-13:17
is what I think the article says... anyway... I think its pretty cool....but I don't like one-handed watches.... in terms of ownership... but design-wise, pretty cool.
Don't love it so far...

Interesting new movement. I always liked micro-rotor automatics so I'm finding that I'm actually staring at the picture of the new movement rather than the pictures of the dial. But I rarely like regulators and this one is not particularly appeasing to my...
News to me

And I like it... a lot! Thanks for the scoop.
Interesting
By: Dje : June 10th, 2011-05:58
Hi, Thank you for the info. I've not heard of it. I've heard that there's a Patek Philippe press conference soon but I'm not invited. Maybe that's the reason..... Cheers Dje
I cant't believe
By: lanzet : June 10th, 2011-07:03
Very interesting ... but so far away from PP. I assume it to be a good joke.
The 22nd it seems to be!
By: Georg : June 16th, 2011-07:46
My retailer told me, the 5235 will be presented on the 22nd and he got me a first (and probably not exact) estimate on the price, which will be around SFR 44.000.
Today is the 22nd :-)
By: Georg : June 22nd, 2011-06:56
so I am very much looking forward to any news from the press conference! So, Imran, I take your post here as a promise, so please type quickly ;-) Best regards Georg
Sector dial
By: watch-er : June 10th, 2011-12:34
I am not a big fan of the sector dials on the new larger watches. But I will have to it in the flesh to really know.
NiceDial
By: Timertom : June 10th, 2011-13:37
Thats a nice looking dial, but the hands are really not to my taste. Surely PP could have come up with something more elegant for such a beautiful dial. Rishad

By: porter505 : June 12th, 2011-08:07

Not even my retailer knew
By: Georg : June 14th, 2011-03:01
Just got my copy of the Patek-Mag (German edition seems a bit late) and fell immediately in love with the new 5235. So I picked up the phone to call my patek-dealer and was surprised, that they have never heard of that watch. It is probably too early to a...
I would be concerned..
By: jimjenkins : June 14th, 2011-22:17
to wear this watch. It has a mini rotor, notorious for its less than desirable efficiency to wind. There are many stories out in the cyberspace regarding winding inefficiencies of similarly powered 240 calibers. Therefore, I would be concerned that this l...
They enlarged the mini-rotor
By: Georg : June 15th, 2011-00:07
"The movement is now 2,60mm high (0,07mm higher than the original 240), because the went for a thicker and therefore heavier rotor, which increases his ability to power the movement." That is, what the PP-Mag states in the german edition. Please excuse my...

mini rotor no problem
By: tomch : June 16th, 2011-02:44
I have a 3940 with mini rotor and it runs perfectly. I find this mini rotor very attractive. It is a well working solution that is different. Differentiation is what I am looking for. Thomas...
Cal. 240
By: olan : June 22nd, 2011-07:53
... and so the Ref. 3940 did (since 1987), though it is moving a perpetual calender also. My Ref. 6000 houses a Cal. 240 also - up to now there weren't any problems. Oliver
