Patek quality control or ..

Aug 10, 2016,11:59 AM

Most of the posts I read appreciate different Patek watches.. their movements, dials, complications, history all those good things. Generally do not see any tales of bad experiences. I own 4 Patek  watches so far and trying to acquire few more. However, I have some bad experiences as listed below.

1.Perpetual calendar with retrograde date : The very 1st month of ownership, at the end of the month, the date did not revert back to 1

The winder box provided by Patek did not work after few months. Even after I got it back after Patek repaired it..it still has issues.

The tip of the stylus to change day, date etc. fell off.

2.Regulator type annual calendar watch did not keep time properly. I just got it back after 6 months or so.

3.After buying these watches, I have gotten standard letters  6 to 8 months after initial purchase. To me, this is not efficient customer relations or .. may be their priorities are different.

4. I have not gotten any reply for the emails I have sent to Patek via their web site.

5.After I bought a chronograph paying hefty price tag, within a year, I have seen the same reference selling for lot less as a pre-owned watch indicating that the Patek watch does not hold value as much as the dealer wanted me to believe.

I sometimes wonder whether other high end companies such as VC or Lange are any better..

I would love to hear about your bad experiences and what was the resolution.

That is a lot of bad experience. I only own one Patek which was damaged during a refurbishment. Patek, replaced the bracelet and gave me a full refund. I can't complain really. That was a good few years ago. Reading the other posts, I don't think Patek is...

I am still saving for my first PP

but i did "contact" them and requested a watch catalogue some six months ago, I'm still waiting for it.

Patek issues

 By: Miranda : August 10th, 2016-12:59
I am sorry to hear of the problems. I can say that owning a perpetual cal chrono, I have never had an issue, world time moonphase, no issue and world time again no issue. I did have a problem with an annual calendar and in 1994 a problem with the reg 3998...

I suggest you purchase a Grand Seiko and call it a day. Stunning timepieces.

+1.. this applies to ...

... all other high end and expensive time pieces including Lange and VC.. not just PP. LOL.

I assume the chrono you were referring to is the $81k 5170?

Seems like the consensus is that Patek is not the same Patek it used to be. Perhaps PP tried too hard to grow too big too fast? 40k watches in 2010, 50k watches in 2012, I wonder how many they are producing now? I also wonder what is their reason to ramp ...

One thing to note:

I wouldn't worry about the current value of your chronograph. All Swiss swatches are currently being hammered on price - and who knows what the situation of the seller is? They could be a distressed seller, or the watch was sold cheaply due to an emergenc...

PM me know if there is a pre-owned 5270R for $90k

 By: damesndoro : August 10th, 2016-13:34
That is the watch I'm dying to buy. Has anyone read or heard problems with a 5270? It's a new in-house movement and I still haven't decided if it's a hole in 1 or a triple bogey and I should wait for v1.4.

Sorry, only one I've seen is a G

 By: Sneakattack : August 10th, 2016-18:08
Personally, I think I want to hold out for a 5970...due to the cachet of having the last ETA movement Patek used in their chronoperpetuals. Antiquorum has had a 5270 come up several times in their last auctions priced at 90k, and couldn't get a seller. I'...

Sorry to hear about your problems.

Luckily your issues are relatively small. I have pretty many Patek and one has been on my wrist nearly every day for over 10 years now. I had some small issues and the first issue was around 2006 but it was pretty much created by the AD who later lost the...

You have quite long list of bad experiences with "only" 4 PP but

you say "trying to acquire few more" Sorry but that sounds strange to me Could you please explain why Sincerely D

Sad to hear

Unbelievable to read your story and truly sad that such a reputable company delivers such a poor service in your case. So far I can\'t complain about any Patek I own (only a few) but I can say that A.Lange & Söhne is absolutely fantastic. All the watches ...

Some thoughts on your post and experience

By: Mark in Paris : August 10th, 2016-15:28
First, I'm sorry to read that and it should not be a good experience to go through. I think that every brands face the same kind of issues but I don't know what are the real statistical figures (and nobody knows). We also have a very different (biased) pe...

my take on it is as follow. The problems you are describing are painful and frustrating. I give you a car analogy, for example if you are a vintage of new car collector like Jay Leno and you own approximately forty cars, you probably must have a mechanic ...
