What are your thoughts on the 5196P? Thanks Cheers...

without doubt my favorite 'simple' Patek

I really love this watch !

One of my favorite Pateks as well.

Gotta love the Breguet numerals, two tone dial. Really simple but very classy. Did you just acquire this piece? Wear it well! Aloha, Bob

It is gorgeous.....

but not mine.... I am considering it.... Cheers

My favourite Simple Calatrava, PP.

The proportions are perfect, the dial with these Breguet numbers, and the two silver tones is just sublime, as well as the delicate hands. A solid case back? Not a big deal, to me, as the movement is small, and not that spectacular to be seen. I own it fo...

No....

not yet..... I am thinking about it.... I would prefer a see through case but you are right... the movement is too small and there is not much to see.... Cheers

Yes & no.....

 By: MiniCooper : January 7th, 2010-14:02
You are right but this case is a bit different...... it is number 3 on my list..... Cheers

Still the same trouble.

The caliber is too small for the case. The competition is more attractive for the handwind 3 hands watches segment in my point of view. Fr.Xavier This message has been edited by foversta on 2010-01-05 14:20:04

Which competition is your favorite?

 By: patrick_y : January 5th, 2010-16:15
Personally; only a few come to mind... The F.P. Journe Chronometre Souverain is a very nice watch right in this price range. Comes with an extra fourth hand for power reserve. Philippe Dufour Simplicty (if one can get one) would be stunning. Kari Voutilai...

Are those really the ONLY competition?

 By: respo : January 5th, 2010-17:04
Is there nothing else from at least VC or AP to compete with this watch with regard to functions, beauty, relative size and movement finish? I am not sure if PinkPanther is asking for comparison to the 5196P's competition or not, but within the Patek fami...

I'm not familiar with the offerings from AP...

Unfortunately, in the region where I live, there aren't any Vacheron Constantin dealers and Audemars Piguet dealers nearby so unfortunately, my recent knowledge about these brands often goes overlooked. There is the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Classique...

Respo knows me well....

I am comparing this one with other Pateks... I did think of the gondolo but prefer this one more Cheers

For me the competition is:

First of all, you have to consider the watches which are in the same price range. So I would choose two: The Lange Saxonia. The Vacheron Patrimony 38mm. I would like to come back to this one. The Patrimony houses the new caliber 4400 which is a marvel com...

This particular watch draws its inspiration from the 1940s Patek Philippe wristwatch reference 570. In my opinion; it is the most beautiful simple formal round Patek Philippe wristwatch currently available. The stunning Breguet numbers, leaf hands, and di...

5196P

I looked at purchasing this wach a couple of years ago. I like the general look of the watch, but the position of the sub dial really erks me. I did go and look at one in person and found it was a little thin for my liking.

Its for me what a simple yet classic Patek should be.....

Although I would prefer a full size sweep second hand. And to have a power reserve would be just the icing on the cake. Saying all of that I hope soon to join the ownership ranks of a 5196.

You see, a full-sized sweep second hand would totally change the idea of this watch...

 By: patrick_y : January 5th, 2010-19:52
A full-sized sweep second hand is designed for more practical daily use to help the reader read the seconds more easily and more accurately. On an evening watch such as the 5196P (not to say that this watch couldn't be worn during the day), the seconds is...

Hi, I love the 5196P, I find it very beautiful and it is for me the best simple round current PP. Still for me it will always come second to a 5098 (R at around the same price or P more expensive). Try a 5098 before! Cheers Dje

the whole style, ... but the watch looks too thin on my wrist. Additional minus is the small movement, also if it is proven. My competitor for the "platinum style" would be the latest ALS 1815 PT Oliver

I also thought....

that it would be too small for my wrist....but it actually looks quite good.... True small movement but I can live with that.... Cheers

Good call Richard, although it has the PR on teh dial, which perhaps takes it our of the running...? But to me, the GO is by far the most original, functional and technically interesting of the watches being discussed here (I am not considering the ALS PL...
