Simple game: you can choose your top two PPs - what would they be? For me: 5070P and 5970P

My opinion

 By: luizinga : May 13th, 2009-07:56
I choose 5002P and 5074P if money is no object , but if money is a concern I agree with 5070P and 5970P !!!!

Money is no object...just a wish list [nt]

A 5016 is enough. Fabio

Interesting

 By: Baron - Mr Red : May 13th, 2009-10:47
5002P cuts in very close for me. I would have to try it on, but agree that it is a truly beautiful watch. Quite a lot of agreement on the 5070s. The choice in the 5070s is taste, i agree. For me, I am not a big fan of the greyish dial, so that would rule ...

Difficult and easy!

 By: tempus : May 13th, 2009-11:32
So many watches from the PP I adore. I think my choice would be 5004P and will be 5970P. If I had to choose from vintage 2499 and 1563 (a split seconds chrono late 40's).

Hmmm...

 By: KCLQMULKU : May 13th, 2009-11:44
Something old (2438) Something new (5159G) Something different (Star Caliber!) and something blue (5102) ...then again if money was truly no object I would commission PP to build me my own wristwatch! This message has been edited by KCLQMULKU on 2009-05-1...

I somehow agree...

 By: MiniCooper : May 13th, 2009-18:15
we have to choose two models So I would also commission PP to build me one wristwatch and one pocket watch lolol cheers

5050 P & 5110 P [nt]

Fantasy versus reality

 By: aaronm : May 13th, 2009-12:40
In fantasy land, I'd want a 3834 (Observatory Tourbillon) and a 5078 In the land of watches of reality, I want a 5110 and a 2526 A

My top two....

 By: patrick_y : May 13th, 2009-14:53
The 5140, one of the best perpetual calendars on the market. Period. And some sort of minute repeater, preferably one with the cathedral gongs. But I'm still working on starting off with the first Patek; which is neither of the two.

In Reality ref 1593 PG and ref 2540 (and a 5105- sorry could not limit it to 2)

 By: watch-guy.com : May 13th, 2009-16:39
In fantasy land 2499 will do me just fine!! Julian

In reality

 By: amorns_ : May 13th, 2009-16:50
I would say 5004 and 3970 2nd edition

 By: MikiJ : May 13th, 2009-19:22
Let's see: A chrono for everyday and a Minute Repeater or Tourbillion for dress-up? Easy with Patek: How about a 5970P and a 3939P, best of both. OK, time to wake-up!

Change my mind...

 By: CL : May 13th, 2009-19:57
It has to be 2499 and the Patek Vintage Tourbillion Observatory with Guillaume balance *CL

My choice .... 3939 & 5959 [nt]

Favourite two Patek Phillipe

 By: Baron - Mr Red : May 14th, 2009-11:20
So, the voting is now in. One hell of a lot of people gave their choice for their dream top 2 watches. And, reading the results in reverse order..... Honourable mentions for 3939, 5078, 5004, 5110 and 5016 who all recorded several hits. But...in third pla...

5004 vs 5970

 By: fnk : May 15th, 2009-02:04
Considering one has a double chrono, I'm just wondering why the 5970 scored more votes than the 5004. Is there some other difference that makes the 5970 more desirable. fnk

And the voting is in.... The medals

I've been watching this thread and wrote a reply seven times, only to delete. I've finially decided that I just can't decide. So best not to There are just too many great watches to choose from. Now if I had to pick a top 15, that's easy: 3974G, 5970G, 51...

I am amazed that in this forum of Purists most people have picked

 By: watch-guy.com : May 15th, 2009-17:32
pretty expensive high end pieces. Do we really aspire to the most expensive range of PP because they are expensive or is that what we really want. Yes we would all love a double split minute repeating tourbillon thingy in expensium double coated platinum ...

Well...the top 2 are not exactly high end or most expensive....

 By: CL : May 15th, 2009-20:26
but seriously, the most desirable watch of modern Patek tends to be very expensive and hi-end. You know that the effort are emphasized there. It's unfortunate but true. One of my desired piece, 2499 is expensive because of what the market demands for...bu...

It's a chicken and egg phenomenon

 By: LarryFRCGP : May 15th, 2009-21:33
The chosen pieces are the acme of horology (i.e. 5016, 5959) both either in handicraft and ability to squuez in so many complications in a small space (i.e., 5016 is just 37 mm) and 5959 (also 36 mm). That's is the cream of the cream, agree? And they are ...

See above

 By: watch-guy.com : May 15th, 2009-21:40
I agree we are all amazed by high end horology and I understand the fascination witht these pieces but where is the love, I ask As a purist I think we should look beyond all the complications and dare I say it, hype of the tourbillon, split second chrono ...

Most desirable often becomes most expensive...

By: nothing but time : May 16th, 2009-14:15
Very few picked the 5002 which is the most expensive Patek.. If everyone here picked the three metals of 5002 as most coveted then you'd be right. There was recently a story on CNN that most expensive wines are prefered in a blind taste test (expensive wi...

Julian...I think I understand your disappointment

Julian, I am not sure you are out of step at all

 By: Baron - Mr Red : May 21st, 2009-01:48
For my part, i voted for 5970P and 5070P. Does that mean I have lost sight? I don't think it does. If I was told that all of my watches with the exception of one had to be destroyed by government decree (!) which one would I keep? Well, it would be a 1957...

Modern high end PPs are better finished than entry level models

 By: Dje : May 24th, 2009-15:03
Hi, That may be why? Of course that was perhaps not the case in the 50s or 60s! Cheers Dje

How about 5002 and 5016 [nt]
