Patek Philippe 5726 A, the first steel and Nautilus annual calendar!

Mar 30, 2010,14:30 PM

Here comes my second best in this year's calendars offering. Pleasing my eyes you can understand that this watch is modern, bringing some fresh air in the annual calendar range.

Patek Philippe 5726 A

This watch is at the same time the first annual calendar Nautilus and the first steel annual calendar.

Diving with crocodiles

I just wonder why it is offered only on a crocodile strap and not on the very beautiful Nautilus steel bracelet? Hopefully the bracelet option will follow.

Again perfect on my wrist

The black and grey dial is very beautiful but I would have liked to see this watch with the Nautilus blue/black dial.

A perfectly balanced dial

Please understand that I still find this watch extremely appealing. I've been very much appealed by the Nautilus 5711/1A recently and this 5726 could be a strong challenger!

The Nautilus case

Have a look below and wonder yourself how long you'll resist? Does anybody know if gold and steel Nautilus models have the same case?

A dream watch

In fact this Nautilus 5726 is my favourite interpretation of what the 5396 offers: the Patek Philippe illustrious perpetual calendars' style!

Let's live younger

If anybody has something to say to help me forget it?

I want it too

Cheers

Dje

Basel 2010: Amazing Patek Philippe's new range of calendar watches!

 By: Dje : March 30th, 2010-12:20
You've already seen them all through the official pics and even some live ones so that's time to show you my own! The new range of chronographs is fantastic and we've begun to discuss them. The new range of calendars is equally amazing! Let's discuss! Pat...

Patek Philippe 5140 P and R, the understated perpetual calendars!

 By: Dje : March 30th, 2010-12:53
Let's begin with a long favourite of many and the new iterations of the classical perpetual calendar 5140, itself derived from the 3940. The Patek Philippe perpetual calendar 5140 is a classic with its thin case and very sober style. This is the understat...

I'll go first with the 5140P...

 By: patrick_y : March 30th, 2010-14:49
The 5140 is my favorite perpetual calendar watch. Period. However, in the past, it was only available in yellow gold and white gold. I thought that since the watch is in a high price-point and it is a "grand complication" according to Patek Philippe, I wo...

I share your sentiment

 By: efftee : March 31st, 2010-00:24
The 5140 is also my favorite perpetual. And as much as I welcome a Platinum edition, I'm not sure about the blue face. I know some people who love blue-face watches but it's not for me. That said, if that was the only 5140 available, it'd still be my favo...

My sentiments exactly..

 By: Watch4Steve : March 31st, 2010-07:38
I was on pins and needles waiting for the 5140P, as the 5140 is at the top of my "get" list and I thought platinum would be the correct metal to get it in. Granted that blue-dialed Pateks typically need to be seen in person to be fully appreciated, I was ...

5140 P

 By: BWA : March 31st, 2010-23:52
Dear Steve and other Patek lovers, I was there at Basel and spent precious time looking at the 5140 P, it looks stunning and the blue dial and strap fit very well with it. Of course, they were unable to show me the piece due to large media demand. But the...

If I could afford and had to choose just one Patek, it would be this one.

 By: marcelo : March 30th, 2010-16:08
And you perfectly stated why, Dje " The thinness of this watch is really a proof of the excellence of Patek Philippe regarding the tradition of elaborating thin calibres and watches. The trend for large watches in the last years has too often made us forg...

That is my favourite PP watch, this year...

 By: amanico : March 30th, 2010-21:20
If I had to get another PP, it could be this one! The bluie dial gives a totally different look to this superb PC. In Whiyte Gold with the white dial, I found it a bit ...sad. Now with this very nice blue, the Beauty of the 5140 pops up. Superb, really su...

Il Contraire

 By: efftee : March 31st, 2010-00:33
The white face on the 5140G is classically perfect with the simple baton markers and dauphine hands. You may be mistaking sombre understatedness as sad, my friend.

Tastes...

 By: amanico : March 31st, 2010-07:21
It is a very subjective matter, and, as always, everyone has his favourite. The white dial is very elegant, sober, understated, as you said, the blue adds something very special, different to put in words, but something like " dynamism " or " youth " on a...

The blue dial ...

is very appealing and it makes the watch (somehow) more special. Anyway, it is not my favourite. Oliver

Patek Philippe 5159 R and 5160 G, the new officer's watches.

 By: Dje : March 30th, 2010-13:31
If you were wondering which is my favourite pink gold perpetual calendar, here is the answer. I was already a fan of the 5159 G. I even more appreciate the pink colour for this kind of historical model. Patek Philippe 5159 R Opening the perfectly adjusted...

I like the 5159R, I'd like to see the 5160G in person...

 By: patrick_y : March 30th, 2010-14:52
I very much like the new 5159R. Although I maintain, I still prefer the 5140 over the 5159 series. The 5159R fills a void that has been strongly desired by many collectors for many years. I'm sure that it will be a resounding success. The 5160G is beautif...

It's a good thing they chose to engrave the officer-watch...

 By: patrick_y : March 30th, 2010-17:25
It's a good thing they chose to engrave the officer watch. This watch with its hunter case is more appropriate to be engraved than any other perpetual calendar watch in the Patek Philippe collection. The engraving simply wouldn't be tolerable on the other...

Patek Philippe 5205 G, the new annual calendar with triple windows (and triple appeal).

 By: Dje : March 30th, 2010-13:59
The Patek Philippe annual calendar 5135 was recently discontinued as it seems that this very beautiful watch was too often regarded as too large. It was not the case but the lugs of great length that were sometimes problematic. The 5135 was really appeali...

 By: patrick_y : March 30th, 2010-14:57
Dje, which watch do you like? The 5146G Slate dial or the new 5205G? Which one would you choose and why? The 5205G is indeed a very beautiful watch, and I imagine it will become one of the most popular watches in the Patek Philippe lineup. I especially li...

Patrick, go for the 5205...

 By: jeffrey2 : March 30th, 2010-20:09
This is the nicest annual calendar in Patek's lineup. The grey and black dial is beautiful. This one's for you! Jeff.

Hard to answer

 By: Dje : April 4th, 2010-11:31
Hi, It's hard to answer your question. I'm still very much appealed by the 5146G slate dial to be honest. I prefer the triple window but I like the 5146 design a lot, the hands, the fact that they are luminous (something I really need for an everyday watc...

Thank you for your thoughts!

 By: patrick_y : April 4th, 2010-12:10
I'm not falling in love with the 5170J as much as you are; I still have not gotten over my "ex" the 5070P. I'm hoping to go for a 5712 Nautilus, since I'm a fan of the micro-rotored 240 caliber. The 5712 is going to make a great watch for the summer. I tr...

"It won my heart" ...

 By: small-luxury-world : March 31st, 2010-00:21
Mine too In most of the cases I am not a big fan of Dauphine hands, but there are exceptions. My father had the same thoughts when I showed him the pictures, so maybe it is a family bug Most of my watches have black dials and I think I really like this on...

Very beautiful indeed....

 By: Goh : March 31st, 2010-05:56
The colours (black and grey), size and layout are more modern than any other Annual Calendar. I also like the fact that the day, date and month windows (and fonts) are bigger than the 5396. Black or grey? Difficult to decide in this case. Goh

Very interesting....::))

 By: Topcat30093 : March 31st, 2010-14:48
Favourite of all the new releases that came from Patek this year. I cannot wait until I am able to see one on my wrist at the AD. At the moment I think that prefer the black & grey dial, but again seeing them both in the flesh will help. I like the op...

Movement

Hi Could you please show us the movement of the watch, many thanks Roger

Well

 By: Dje : April 4th, 2010-11:34
Hi It is based on a classical calibre 324 (updated 315). I have no pic in fact of the back. Sorry Cheers Dje

the 5205G is a WINNER!!!

 By: ChristianDK : April 1st, 2010-01:58
WOW I didnt realize that the case is so nice it looks absolutely superb. I love the dial with the windows. One thing I have doubts about is the frame around the central window but - perhaps its just me - I cant wait to see this watch IRL. Thank you Dje fo...

Patek Philippe 5396, the classical annual calendar.

 By: Dje : March 30th, 2010-14:08
Here is a new annual calendar we already saw at the beginning of the year. This year's show was the opportunity to see it. The new 5396 is in fact a new dial variation after the launch a few years ago of the so called sector dial version. Patek Philippe 5...

An utter classic indeed...

 By: patrick_y : March 30th, 2010-14:59
Why don't they make a perpetual calendar like this anymore? I very much like this watch, however, due to the hard edges on the case, this watch does look thicker in person. My favorite part about the 5396 is the dial of the watch. This watch has the most ...

Classic design.....

 By: MiniCooper : March 31st, 2010-10:23
and beautiful but I think that I prefer the previous model.... cheers

older 5396

 By: rustted : April 4th, 2010-00:56
To be honest, I'm in love with the older version of the 5396, and the new one, to me, just lost the perfect blue railway dial on the older version.

Yes, please for me...

I love this 5396 R - it is the perfect watch for me - and the next generation ... Erich

Patek Philippe 5726 A, the first steel and Nautilus annual calendar!

Here comes my second best in this year's calendars offering. Pleasing my eyes you can understand that this watch is modern, bringing some fresh air in the annual calendar range. Patek Philippe 5726 A This watch is at the same time the first annual calenda...

Looks good, but...

 By: patrick_y : March 30th, 2010-15:07
Honestly, I was originally excited by the idea of an annual calendar in a Nautilus case. Today, I'm somewhat taken aback. The annual calendar is a useful mechanism that is designed for daily wear. The Nautilus to me strikes me as a very casual watch that ...

"... second best ..."

 By: small-luxury-world : March 30th, 2010-23:31
Same thoughts (more or less) here ... It is a very appealing and well balanced Nautilus, from every angle. It looks good with the leather strap, but I assume it would look irresistible with a steel ... Do we have to wait, or is it maybe retrofitable? Oliv...

On a bracelet it will be irresistable indeed

 By: gqmagic : March 31st, 2010-20:57
I'm not to sure how I feel about the white second hand, I don't like it on the 5135 replacement and not sure about the Nautilus Annual. Though I have one on my 5167, the white second hand seems better suited to a sporty watch than a dress watch.

i really like it!!

 By: mjnoumoff : April 3rd, 2010-20:54
I really like the pictures of the watch and some of the wrist shots. granted I need to see the watch in person, and on my wrist.... haha!!

Not my cup of tea

 By: chris9 : March 31st, 2010-09:09
The original Nautilus is a great design, and imho does not work as an annual cal. Too narrow between the "eyes" is the feeling I get, and the moonphase completely malplace on this dial. Love the other new models but this one is unattractive imo.

Although...

 By: MiniCooper : March 31st, 2010-10:27
I love the Nautilus line, I am not certain about this complication in this case..... however I would like to see it in metal first.... thanks for posting this Dje (as well as the rest of the thread) Cheers

My pleasure! nt

Wow, simply irresistible indeed! [nt]

No message body

I don't think so

 By: Dje : April 4th, 2010-11:38
Hi, In fact the case is the same width as the 5980, slightly larger than the 5711 and 5712. Cheers Dje

Offical prices for the 5726 A

 By: krglstnr : April 2nd, 2010-11:51
Are there already retail prices known for the 5726 A ? Will it be in the range of the 5170 A of about 20k Euro or more in the range of the 5980 of 29k Euro ? Only curious about this as I want to know if it is worth the wait or if one should go for a 5170 ...

Meant 5712 not 5170

 By: krglstnr : April 2nd, 2010-15:33
Don't know how to correct it, but I meant of course the 5712 A & G and not 5170 ...

I don't know exactly but

 By: Dje : April 4th, 2010-11:39
Hi, As I understood it it should be somewhere in the middle between the 5712/1A and the 5980/1A. Cheers Dje

Love the 5726

I think it looks great. is there a review on its quality and technology? thanks

I’ve been intrigued by these annual/perpetual calendars

I don't know...

 By: patrick_y : March 30th, 2010-17:34
March 18th was the start date of Basel this year, but Basel didn't start on Saturday... Patek Philippe was founded in 1851. In the year of 1851, March 18th is not a Saturday, it is a Tuesday. It was also a Saturday, March 18th in 2006. I need to get my Co...

5205 vs 5207

 By: missoss : May 27th, 2010-04:16
The 5205 is the poor mans 5207. I would be very happy to admit that I was poor with a 5205 sitting squarely on my left wrist!
