Every year
Patek Philippe produces limited editions of enamelled waches, or unique pieces
of Dome table clocks or other pieces.
This year again
much work has been done to create these marvellous pieces of art. Those who
visited the Patek Philippe Museum
in Geneva know
to what extent enamel watches are an essential part of Patek Philippe's
history.
Please let me
present you the new models that were shown at Baselworld.
Let's
begin with the men's limited edition set of wristwatches reference 5077P.
Those four
watches are sold in a set and show this year four different dials of
"Native Indians of the Great Plains".
These watches
are powered by an ultra thin automatic calibre reference 240.
The platinum
case only emphasizes the work done on the dial made of "cloisonné" enamel.
The gold ribbon used for the partitions is only 0.1mm thick. The dial also
shows feather-patterned white gold hands.
These four
watches are referenced #57, 58, 59, 60 inside the reference 5077P.
Then comes a
series of unique pieces Dome clocks.
The "Sacred
Temple Cats of Siam"
Dome clock is made in engraved Baccarat crystal with heat applied gold gilt. It
is crafted from two lawyer crystal: moss green crystal at the exterior and
clear crystal at the interior. The base is in clear crystal. The engraving of
Siamese cats, Thai temples, Buddha, Thai dancers and orchids was performed
using a lathe with cutting wheels and necessitated over 100 hours of work.
The
"Spring Swallows" Dome clock shows the same mode of production.
The
"Orchids" Dome table clock is made in "cloisonné"
enamel dial with integration of silver thread and silver leaf at the center of
the flowers. The length of the gold ribbon used for the partitions is around 20.9 meters.
The
"Butterflies" Dome clock is decorated with "cloisonné"
enamel and enamel paint finishing. It uses 28.39 meters of gold
ribbon. It shows 56 enamel colors (Limoges
and Japanese enamels) and 6 finishing enamel paint colors.
The « Bleu
de Sèvres » Dome clock is also made in "cloisonné" enamel. It
shows 25 transluscent, opalescent and opaque enamel colors.
The « Wild
Horse" Dome table clock is made with "cloisonné" enamel on a
hammered and engraved background.
I guess that
this Dome clock "Pandas" may have been the star of the show! This
animal has a huge capital of sympathy. It is decorated with
"cloisonné" enamel with enamel paint finishing.
Anybody tempted
by this loving mother ?
The
« Schooners » Dome clock is decorated with "cloisonné"
enamel.
The
« Arabic Calligraphy III » shows a very beautiful mix of gold and
green colours (of enamel of course).
"The
Golden Twenties" shows another style with an Art deco decoration.
Obviously there
was a wide selection of themes but you may keep in mind that these clocks are
all unique pieces.
They are an old
tradition for Patek Philippe and I can say you that they are much more
impressive in real life than they are on pics.
Of course you
don't have to love them all as they have very different styles.
Here is a last
one!
Then I propose
you to have a look at the Ladies wristwatch models.
This year the
choice is among four dials showing trees surrounded by stones, or diamonds
should I say!
Should we see
this choice of theme as a wish to span the attention on the importance of the
trees for our future?
I particularly
like the maple tree as it reminds my lost youth in Canada !
Here comes the
time to end this post with the last two watches, those I found the most
appealing ones.
They are piece
unique pocket watches. Enjoy!
The
"Royal Bengal Tiger" is a white gold pocket watch equipped with
calibre 1-17 LEP PS IRM. It is a manual winding watch with power reserve
indication.
The case is
decorated with a "cloisonné" enamel dial depicting a Royal Bengal
tiger across water. It shows a guilloched gold dial with blue guilloched
mother-of-pearl and gold applied Breguet numerals. The crown is set with an
aquamarine cabochon. The engraved white gold bow is set with 12 diamonds.
The
"Bouquet of Roses" is the same watch, if I dare say so, in yellow
gold with a red rose pattern in "cloisonné" enamel and enamel paint
finish, with integration of gold leaf. It has a "paillonne" enamel
dial (splangling under transparent enamel) decorated with a bouquet of roses,
with integration of 26 gold splangles and gold applied Breguet numerals.
The crown is
set with a "briolet" cabochon. The bow is set with 44 rubies. The
watch has a yellow gold chain decorated with cylinders set with 60 diamonds.
This selection
of "art" pieces is quite amazing IMVHO and let us imagine that you
can probably order such pieces to your own taste.
I hope you
enjoyed them as they are rarely seen and quite impressive.
Cheers
Dje
