Date change question

Jan 22, 2012,10:23 AM

Hi All-

I'm a new addition to the Patek family, having purchased a new 5146 a couple of weeks ago.  I'm noticing the date will move around slightly in the window with movement of the watch, especially around 1:00 AM.  I realize this is the time of the date change, but should I be able to actually move the date in the window with watch movement?  Also, during other times of the day, I am noticing that with significant movement  (shaking it back and forth in my hand) the date will still move around slightly in the window?  Is this normal?  Thanks!

Clearly that doesn't seem normal

Hi, Congratulatipns for your choice but as you describe it you should show it to your AD (especially if you bought it new). It looks like if something (the date disc) was a bit loose. Best Dje

It depends

It's actually normal that the date is lose around 1:00 am, that's when it changes over, and it takes some time to fully complete the process. Mine behaves the same way around date change; if I move the watch, the date "floats" from around midnight to 1:30...

It depends

Thanks very much for the response. The link reassured me my watch is functioning as it should. A bit strange that the date overshoots, but then recenters with time. I'm not 100% sure there is significant movement at other times of day. Perhaps now that I ...

am disappointed !

PP needs to work on Instant Date Change (as is available in Rolex). If the day change can happen in 4 secs past midnight so should the date ! A disappointment from Patek !

it's odd

to me also, how can they make things like torbillons, fusee-and-chain(from A.L&S) that i fancy alot, or parts so small you barely can see with your eyes and not instant date change

Instant date change alone is easy on a simple calibre

Hi, Instantaneous change of all indications of a complete calendar, be it simple, annual or perpetual, is not easy. They have implemented an instantaneous calendar change in the 5207, but it is a complication in itself on top of the perpetual calendar. pa...

thank you Dje

In a similar post, earlier on today. Please remember to take into account that in both threads we are discussing AC's which of course require a lot more power to move both the date and the day and of course the month at the end of each calendar month. So ...
