A few years ago
I had the chance to attend the presentation of the new Patek Philippe 5207 P at
Baselworld. It was a great time but I had no opportunity to touch an assembled
watch, just a calibre.
This year Patek
Philippe presented a pink gold version of the same watch. And this time I
offered myself an opportunity to see it more closely. I was not deceived.

I was not
deceived by this extraordinary watch. The level of complication is a summit in
the Patek Philippe range for me. The quality of the acoustics is also really
excellent.
I was really
seduced by the fit on my wrist. I really much prefer this one to the 5213. Of
course I'd love to try the platinum version someday, but this pink gold
black dial option was already quite tempting.
This design is
very much understated for such a complicated piece and I find this two tone
presentation even more striking than the copper coloured dial of the platinum.
The rounded
case is like a chunk of warmness. The pink gold colour increases the sensuality
of the soft forms.
The watch is
clearly not thick for a minute repeater tourbillon wristwatch with
instantaneous perpetual calendar. That's in these upscale highly
complicated watches that Patek Philippe best shows its excellence.
In fact this
watch can be seen as a possible (nearly) everyday watch. It's a tried and
true calibre, a rare Patek Philippe certified chronometre.
Some may not
like the decorated lugs, and they are not the best part of this watch of
course. Still I could and they probably could do with them.
The tourbillon
version of the Patek Philippe minute repeater calibre is also even more
appealing than the automatic non tourbillon seen on the 5213. Most of us will
quite certainly never reach this level of mechanics on the wrist every day, but
this kind of piece will always make us dream!
