New 5711 - crooked seconds hand
Dec 23, 2013,05:24 AM
Need advice from the sifus and experienced watch collectors here.
I picked up a Nautilus 5711 today! I am very happy with the watch. It sings to my heart, and I'm glad I bought it even though it was a bit more than what I had budgeted to spend. Some background, my last watch was purchased 5 years ago (a Rolex GMT IIc), and I also have a Pam 0005 logo and an Omega Seamaster, which is pretty much my watch collection. So basically this 5711 was a big step up for me.
The beautiful 5711!
However, I noticed a minor flaw after I left the Patek boutique. The seconds hand is not straight. At the the end/tip of the hand, it is bent i.e. crooked. It is noticeable with the naked eye, and quite obvious if you actually stare at the seconds hands. Pics shown below.
I messaged the salesperson and he told me to bring the watch in tomorrow to get it checked out. I am sure Patek will change the seconds hand for me. My question is this - have any of you noticed some flaw in your new watches? Should I actually get it fixed? The watch will probably have to be sent down to Singapore (I bought the watch in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from an authorised dealer) and be away for some time I guess. And I am not sure whether taking the watch apart to change the seconds hand would cause any other damage or scratches to the case? I probably will send the watch in, but wanted to hear your feedback and advise in case there is good reason to not get it fixed based on your experience and reasons. But what a bummer!
Thanks.
At the beginning of the minute hand, the seconds hand is dead center. But at the end it curves upwards.
Visible with the naked eye.
