Baselworld 2014 – Patek Philippe Enamel Dials

Following some pictures of the enamel dials displayed at the Patek Philippe stand. I was simply fascinated by the intense colours.

“Water Lilies and Lotus” in Rose Gold. Dial in pliquė-a-jour enamel (cut out cells filled with enamel, inserts under translucents enamel) , 59 emeralds and one pink diamond.

“Water Lilies and Koi Carps” in rose gold.  Rose gold dial with pliquė-a-jour enamel, cloisoinee and miniature enamel.

5077/100G-001 Water lilies in white gold. White gold dial with plique-a-jour enamel .

I never imagined I could get fascinated by the feathers of birds. But I spent a lot of time admiring the vivid colours, the various shades and nuances and reflections on the dial.

PP 5077P-100 St. Pierre Cathedral, Geneve in PT. White enamel applied on a dark base using a fine brush or a needle. This technique is apparently called "Grisaille du blanc Limoges". There is always something to learn....

5077/100G-013 Blue sunflowers, white gold dial deocrated with Art Deco sunflowers in cloisonne enamel with the help of 49 silver and gold spangles.

“Kingfisher” – Pocketwatch in white gold decorated with a cloisonne enamel kingfisher . Hand engraved background with engraved mother of pearl water lilies.

Ref. 982/143G Japanese Cranes in White Gold. Open faced Pocket Watch. The subtle nuances of the painting was obtained by extensive combinations of very few enamel colours. As many as 15 to 20 firings at a high temperature off apprx 800 degree were required to complete the fine enameling of the caseback

„Ballerina“ – yellow gold pocket watch with a ballerina in "Grisaille du blanc Limoges". The theatre background is suggested using fine 24K gold dust. Unique piece

Finally a Sky Moon Tourbillon  Ref. 6002. in white gold. Case, lugs and slide piece entirely decorated in relief hand engraved. Blue enamel gold dial. Dial center decorated in blue gradient cloisonné enamel.

Seems like most of them have diamond on the bezels & lugs and are catered more for the female customers What did you think about the St Pierre Cathedral watch ?? Does the "bat' look scary ?? Thanks Gordon

Thank you so much for these wonderful pictures!

I must admit that I had been less than excited by Patek's enamel dials lately, but apparently, I have seen the wrong pieces. These here are simply stunning, and belong to the very best of enamel handcraft. I especially like the bird feather details, but a...

interesting proposal...

to have a reference post and happy to contribute, if I can. I will post some pictures of other enamel dials that I noted at the Baselworld. IMO, Jacquet Droz is a strong contender in the field of enamel dials too. Have a good week and regards Stefan

Thanks,
