Some macro shots of my PP 5146R

Aug 18, 2014,08:01 AM

Many of you know how much I love this beauty. Compared to many complicated PPs here, my 5146R is considered a humble PP. Nonetheless, it never fails to bring me joy when I wear it. smile

The cream lacquered dial, the sensual curves of the case, the warmth of the rose gold case.... I just love this watch!
My one and only PP. Almost 2 years owning this beauty and still loving it!

Some macro shots to share here. Only now do I see the moonphase and stars in details. They are sort of "engraved" looking, and not smooth and shiny like many other moonphases I know of. I love the way the moon and stars look under the loupe. Fantastic detail.

Enjoy the pics!

Cheers
Robin

Glad you like it geross and thank you for your kind words The rotor is nicely decorated without being too ornamental. Just nice for me :) Cheers Robin

Lovely, slightly blur around the edges, macros

Really like the results! Someone, at the Lange forum I believe, put in some very, very sharp macros. Did not really like them as "too technical" pictures. Yours look great and are like a memory of a dream: detailed but still blur. Many thanks Moritz

Thank you Moritz!

Actually my photos are far from perfect and you correctly pointed out the blurred parts :) I was trying hard to make them nicer but am limited by my kits. Am glad you like the effects ! :) Thank you for your encouragement! It's PuristS like you who make m...

I absolutely love that cream lacquered dial. Gorgeous - and you captured it very nicely! Thanks for sharing - looks great on your wrist!

Yes the cream lacquered dial

Was what attracted me to this watch in the first impression. I am glad you like it too! The current Calatrava 5227 (I think) with the hunter case back has the same colored dial if I recall rightly. PP got this color right ! Cheers Robin

...to life !! Good observation and comments about the moon phase. I must now use the loupe to look at my annual calendar as well. Cheers, Gordon

Thanks Gordon!

The moonphase looks so unique unlike most other brands' shiny moon. PP does these details with style Enjoy your annual calendar under a loupe and let us know what you see! :) Cheers Robin

Those kind of details ...

Hey Robin, regarding the moonphase and the texture of the moonphase disc, Patek Philippe recently changed to this "grainy" metallic texture on their moonphase watches approximately five years ago. Before that, they would have a shiny polished foil moonpha...

Thanks for the info Patrick!

One of my friends told something related too recently and he said there was a post on the various moonphase designs of PP watches over time. I will try to find that post soon and share. Cheers Robin

Yes Robin, that would be great...

 By: Mike H : August 20th, 2014-02:32
If you could find the article about PP moonphase evolution. I had also noticed this change ( between you and me, I am not sure that I prefer the new grained version over the previous polished gold one ), and I was wondering when the change has occured. I ...

Hi Mike, this is what I found and remember reading here before

Some interesting posts and comments from our community members comparing the older shiny moonphase vs the new grainy ones Cheers Robin

Many thanks Robin

I had obviously missed that thread. I had also noticed that change and I agree with Chopper88 that there are pros and cons for each option. This detail is interesting to notice, but probably not significant enough so as to influence the choice ( at least ...

I should start learning how to take macro shots of my watches.

Thank you Luis

5146 in RG

 By: Tonypatch : January 6th, 2015-04:23
....works much better than the sober WG and generic YG versions.

I like the RG version more

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : January 9th, 2015-23:44
But I think the WG cream dial is also very nice. the slate dials don't speak so much to me :) Glad you like the RG version too Cheers Robin

WG/slate

That combo makes the watch look very cold; I would have difficulties combining it with a dark blue suit and a white shirt. A RG watch is much warmer.

Great photos

I'm not a collector like most of you on the list, just wanted a nice watch to wear on a daily basis (except exercise and golf). Have had my 5146r for 14 months and still incredibly accurate (about 15 s a month fast). Best part is that no one at work has a...

You are right it is a wonderful watch. I have had a PP 5054J for the last 13 years. It was by far the most accurate watch in my collection. I have recently purchased a NIB 5146R. I will be taking delivery of it in one month from an AD on the East Coast. I...

RG vs. YG 5146 dial

 By: Tonypatch : January 15th, 2015-13:09
Rg makes the dial look much softer and warmer. Great combo with the cashmere sweater!

From every little detail to the whole watch: exquisite!

By: COUNT DE MONET : January 22nd, 2015-09:44
In my book it is one of the most desirable Patek as it has a decent size, nice complication and a very, very nice aura. From macro to reality: thoroughly enjoyable! Thank you. Moritz

Thanks my friend !
