5550P for 5396G Tiffany & Co. Do the trade or not?

Hi Guys,

I have a dilemma which has been confusing for me for a while and I want to ask you guys'  opinions.

I own a 5550P Advanced Research & Perpetual Calendar 300 limited in my personal collection for 2 years now. It was my first Patek Philippe ever. Now I am lucky enough to own 7 of them (6102P, 5711P, 5270G, 5550P, 5070P, 5235G, 5164A). And I have been hunting for a 5396G Tiffany & Co 100 limited for a while.

Now I've found the watch for me. My dilemma is either I should go buy 5396G with cash or should I trade-in my 5550P?

The reason why I'm considering giving up the 5550P is that the size is really small for my wrist to be able to wear it in any occasion (37mm). Of course it being a really classic model with brown strap is one of the biggest factors with the size. I know 5396G is not really too much bigger (38mm), but sportiness and the dial of it makes it a everyday watch which can be worn with tshirts or casual wear as well. Since the day I own 5550P, I was able to wear it on 3 occasions which all of them I was wearing suits. It is the watch which has the least wrist time.

The reason why I'm hesitating giving up the 5550P is that I'm trying to be a collector of precious watches (Especially Patek Philippe's) and it is a limited watch which there is really non for sale at the market currently. Would that be a regretful decision for me in the future? I'm not sure. But while I'm trying to be a collector, I try not to make my watches a safe queen only and wear them on every occasion possible. If I was OK with them being only a safe queen, I wouldn't consider this trade.

So, what you guys are thinking?

Thank you!

Salih

because this forum has the most experts in watch knowledge and is the first choice. I'm still learning about Patek but if I am as lucky like you, I will just buy the 5396G Tiffany, split second, since its spare change. The only known owner for this watch ...

sounds to me like you should trade if you can agree on reasonable terms. you seem to want to enjoy your collection and if there is an item you find you do not give enough wrist time, why keep it around? you do not seem like a hoarder and seem like the kin...

This has to be about personal taste only.....

......I love the 5550P...i love its size, its look....everything about it. For me, I wouldn't make that trade.....but its not about me....if you dont wear the 5550P and dont get joy from the watch "on your wrist", then let it go.

I would not trade it

I would have a problem too with the size, but than … why did you buy it in the first place ? Guess you could live with it when you bought it, might be small but probably not too small for you cause otherwise I hope you wouldn't have bought it. So I would ...

Not sure about Costco but those Rolex with Domino's Pizza logo seem to be cherished by some! I agree with some of you guys on logos on watches, in general I am not a subscriber if it is the same configuration otherwise. However in the case of the 5396G it...

is truly a stunning piece; black dial, applied Breguet numerals, WG case, perfect size etc etc; the Tiffany name on the dial is very inconspicuous / barely noticeable; one of my friends has it and its one of the most beautiful ACs I have ever seen; I woul...

to keep the 5550 because I have seen it on the wrist of a Patek executive and it is an amazing watch with its ultra thinness !! If you have the funds, then do not trade it the 5550 Just buy the Tiffany LE

.... i think that you are posing the problem in the right way. Wearing the watches is the core idea about watches, and if i were you i wouldn't try to be a collector with rare pieces but pieces that i do not wear. Feels like its an ego thing, and i wouldn...

Hi guys, Thank you for your valued inputs. All are very much appreciated. I have decided that I might regret losing a collection piece like 5550P, so I decided to keep it and buy the 5396G Tiffany & Co when it is right. I have a personal interest to i...
