Patek Philippe 3738/100G-012 white gold Golden Ellipse- almost 2 years review

Nov 01, 2014,11:45 AM

It has been almost two years since I bought my Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse ( 3738/100G-012 in white gold).

I do realise that this is one of the most basic (and humble) models but I think it might be an interesting contrast with
other more sought-after and complicated models. I purchased the golden ellipse in February 2013 and I am still
very grateful to all the suggestions and recommendations received from several forum members. Initially I wasn't truly sure
about it but the feedback from existing owners was very valuable indeed.

I currently own three patek (this was my second, the other two I have are a Calatrava 5127 and the Steel Nautilus in
white) and, while all three were pretty much love at first sight, I was truly very excited to get the golden ellipse and I am
still excited when I wear it:

I bought too many watches in 2013 so the golden ellipse had to wait a bit until I re-discovered it and realised how
much I still love it. There is something special about it. In my view if you have like me a fairly small wrist and are looking
for a unique yet very discrete watch the golden ellipse is an excellent choice. It is very light and slim yet. In contrast
with other slim watches I own I like that the ellipse has an automatic movement.

Here it is in front of the patek philippe boutique:

And on a book

I love the combination with the cufflinks that add even more class to a special day or
evening

The dial is very unique and I think this model is the first to have it in a grey that has a different impact
depending on the light:

I think that the Patek Philippe golden ellipse is certainly not for everyone but I absolutely love the
unique shape, the retro feeling and how discrete it can be. It is among one of the simplest and more
affordable patek models yet it is different and personally I like it much more than more complicated
watches in my collection.

After almost two years I don't find a single negative about the watch. If you love the size and design
you won't be disappointed.

I plan to wear it even more often as I absolutely love simple yet classy watches.

It was in perfect condition, with all papers and even the sales receipt. However, I took it to Patek Geneva and they made a full service plus delivered me two made-to-measure straps. The greatest joy was when they found from the spare parts in Geneva a sp...

even my wrist is 8 inches. Golden Ellipse is supposed to be kind of understated simple dress watch. The platinum one is the size of modern oversized watches and the slimness is just emphasising that. That was my reasoning for going to the traditional size...

What one has to not forget about the watch: you can wind it with such a minute, small crown. That tells you all about the quality of the movement. Here design meets its perfect match in the movement, making it the slimmest Patek in the collection. Many th...

the cal. 240 is just the cherry on the cake: Maybe it is not the hottest piece in todays market, but who cares. In the long-run and for me even today, it is a winner. In a perfect world I would like to own at least three different gold metals, but so far ...
