Patek Minute Repeater and Annual Calendar Ref 5033P.

Feb 20, 2015,14:53 PM

2 quick pictures of this Ref 5033 in platinum.

To sum it, I much preferred what I heard than what I saw.

The Watch is huge, thick. The dial is well, not my taste.

I am not fan of an annual calendar in a Watch of such a price.

I expected more from the movement, but... But... These 2 hammers symmetrically located are top.

And the sound, my friends, the sound is really top! Rich, loud enough, just impressive.

Yes, I much preferred what I heard than what I saw.

Best,

Nicolas

Minute Repeater and Annual Calendar is a crazy combination. Like a Beluga Caviar hot dog. Best, Kari

You forgot the Ketchup. [nt]

I will disagree this time, I am not a big fan of opening in a dial whatever the reason but overall I like this understated silver colour, and I love that tonneau case, for the caliber nothing else to add. So yes I like this understated but bizarre monster...

I don't dislike the shape of the case, I am more disturbed by its proportions.

It is really huge. And the proportions ruin a bit what would be an understated elegance, in a smaller size. BUT the sound of the MR is really awesome. Best, François.

Same thing as...

the AP Tradition, it's huge, really too big... but that case design wow, the dial and the overall watch is sublime. It's way too big and I definitely can't wear or afford it, but I can't help loving it though. François

same size as the 5135 ? [nt]

No, the 5033 is much bigger.

5033 is 51 x 38 mm, the 5135 is 40 x 38 mm. A huge difference. Best, Nicolas

no ….. exactly the same size

I was not sure but I could not believe the 5131 was 'only' 40 mm I took an old catalog (2007) and both watches are 51 x 38 But the 51 is probably lugs included ….

5131???

You meant the 5135, right? In any case, thanks for the information. Best, Nicolas

it's still early :-)

5135 case indeed.

Definately a 5135 case, I remember when they came out in 2004 or so they had other movements in mind for this case.

Sound is a matter of quality and design is ...

a matter of taste. Even when the design was not to your taste, you have been very lucky to listen to something rare and nice. Never saw (in the metal) and listended to one. Thanks a lot for sharing, Nicolas! Oliver

Yes, it took me some time to listen to a Patek MR. It is now done.

I hope to be able to listen to more... Best, Nicolas

Hi Nico, This piece's annual calendar function is very...

...useful but for a high end MR IMO it should either be without the AC or have the PC. Guess Patek perfected the sound no matter the metal ?? Based on various articles I read, rose gold should be the best metal for MR sound, correct ? Cheers, Gordon

Well, I didn't have the opportunity to test it in rose gold ( if it ever exists in RG ).

 By: amanico : February 21st, 2015-08:42
But, theoretically, gold sounds better than platinum. BUT I have to say that this Patek sounds very nicely. Now, to each his own, I am not fan of the dimensions ( too big for my taste ) and of the complication, which is half way between a triple date and ...

I don't think

 By: tom2517 : February 26th, 2015-02:32
I don't think Patek has perfected the sound, because if that were the case, every one of them would sound the same. The ones I heard, even in same metal, are different, they are never the same. So that's one biggest gripe I have with minute repeaters, I w...

You won´t be disappointed and no you are not done, yet. Ref´s 5078, 3939 ... are waiting for you - somewhere :-) Good luck! Oliver

Looks like the watch has seen a lot wrist time. What's all the dirt or grime on the back near the crown where the sapphire back meets the case?
