I have a problem a positive problem...

Mar 27, 2015,15:27 PM

I got today an unexpected call from an AD friend. He told me that he has kept two Anniversary Watches waiting for me:

5575G
and
5975G

He added that I can buy one if I want.

I did not even think about buying one because I thought it would be too difficult. Now I'm facing the real problem: which one?

Do you have any good ideas with reasoning. I have somewhere in my storage the World Times but I do not have an automatic Patek chronograph. I really do not know...

Best, Kari

If you don't know, then pass. After all, if your AD offers you those, they may not be as

Hot as announced... And if you don't know, it is not Worth considering one of them. Best, Nicolas

Thanks Nico,

an intersting approach. I have not seen the watches in metal so it's hard to say. I think both are quite interesting and in a way very exceptional Pateks. Best, Kari

Funny?

Could be true...? [nt]

Good advice.

Although I know I'd take the Chrono. But if one is unsure, why take a chance and be unhappy later.

I tried hard to get a 5975G when it was anounced

By: Mark in Paris : March 27th, 2015-15:39
but I guess in France, with only one AD, their are a lot of clients looking for one. If I had found one abroad I would have got it already. I love its case and bezel, much more interesting than the 5170's one, even if the 5170's case, more simple, is more...

Thank you Mark. I really appreciate your opinion.

 By: dr.kol : March 27th, 2015-15:45
When I have made up my mind, I will let you know by PM. It might take some time because my business schedules are quite tight and it takes some time before I can see the watches in metal. Luckily, the AD promised to keep the watches till I get the time. I...

No problem, take your time Kari :)

Ed, you have a very very very very strong opinion. Best, Kari

It's always easier

When you are decided on a watch, and then go hunting for it. In this way it's you who are doing the driving. When watches are offered, it's always a bit confusing because you are being asked to make a decision on something you May have not considered. Is ...

Thanks Thornteq

 By: dr.kol : March 28th, 2015-02:11
I did not consider these watches because I thought those are not available. I have earlier decided to get either 5170G or 5370P. An automatic chronograph would also make a nice pair to a manual winding chrono... Best, Kari

5975

 By: drphileasfogg : March 28th, 2015-01:18
but in Pt. If you prefer white metals - I like the 5975P best, of course I understand that is not what you have been offered but you should look at these anniversary pieces and ask yourself which one you would get regardless of what you just got offered. ...

I would love to have 5975P

but that is not available. Tough decisions. Best, Kari

... both are great, you cannot go wrong with either. Now i have a slight preference for the 5575G, as the white gold on the 5975G in combo with that dial, makes it a bit cold ( dry ). Works best with J and R,... and of course P. The 5575G is simply stunni...

I do not think the time is a problem.

 By: dr.kol : March 28th, 2015-04:40
The AD promised to keep those and I understood that he has wisely kept these aside for clients who are also considering something "big". I have a dilemma between 5370P vs. 5078P as my "final" watch. That gives some bargaining power because I will buy eith...

1. 5575 is great piece of art but, readability is poor and second, Moscow time is wrong - which is important for me. Athough I like this watch a lot - reason to move from Moscow to Toscana maybe:) 2. Chrono - I dont get it at all. If you are going to buy ...

Thank you Ed. Words of wisdom!

I will get next week the Anniversary book and will have a closer look at the watches. However, these watches do not drive me crazy even they are nice. Ed, are you a hunter? You speak like one. Many Russians are great bear hunters and I have been hunting U...

Is the Ursus Arctos......

 By: Sandgroper : March 28th, 2015-22:26
really the # 1 trouble maker in the world? Why is that? Eating too much honey or is it perhaps because it doesn't like to be hunted that much;) As for the watch, having seeing and tried the 5575G, I would go with the 5270G blue dial. Cheers Francois

I will give just the short version of explanation.

 By: dr.kol : March 29th, 2015-00:30
Ursus Arctos a.k.a. Eurasian Brown Bear, in America known as Grizzly Bear ,is one of the most magnificent wild animals outside Africa. In some parts of Europe, the animal is relatively common. Brown Bear is a mixed feeder, in other words it's eating both ...

Right, the bear in the nature is extremely dangerous...

Especialy when you see the how it's runnnig and its speed. It's a forest tank. Sorry for off topic, but I'm trying not to hunt the animals I am not going to eat. Ducks, deer and elk. I don't accapet the hunt just for the fan. It's terrible. But the runnin...

Have you ever seen how the bear climbs to the tree? It goes fast! I had last night the dinner in a Russian restaurant. The had on the menu Siberian pelmenis (= a kind a ravioli) filled with bear meat. Have you tried? (I do not like the taste of structure ...

Couldn't agree more with you....

 By: Fricks : March 28th, 2015-10:13
... on all you've said. And that 5270G is one of those great watches that is still unknown, and will get the recognition it deserves.

I don't really agree on the chrono point

By: Mark in Paris : March 29th, 2015-03:38
even if I agree on other matters :) For me the 5975 chrono is not a usual 2 subdials chrono. It is a measurement instrument for 3 types of data: Speed, heartbeats and distance seperating an event from the oberver. Thus, the "chrono" doesn't need more than...

Mark, thank you for your comment and I would

 By: EDJA : March 29th, 2015-07:49
100% agree with you on that: Concerning the 2 pushers vs Monopusher, I would find the 2 pushers choice more balanced aesthetically speaking (even if I like the monopusher too). The problem of the monopusher is that it is usually bigger and sometime is not...

Thanks Ed, you too :) [nt]

Agree with nico.....

They aren't that hard to get, and I'm sure you know these watches as well as anyone. You have seen all the photos, read all the reviews, probably tried them on, so..... There is no problem, buy or pass them both! If not possible then flip a coin, clearly ...

Sorry, you are wrong.

 By: dr.kol : March 28th, 2015-07:21
I did not imagine that I could get one. I have not seen the watches in metal and only yesterday I started to look at the pictures more carefully as well as to read the articles. In other words, I know much less about these watches that about Patek's produ...

Well.....

 By: THH : March 28th, 2015-16:32
Since they have slipped under your radar ever since announcement then you probably should pass Regards

despite some criticism both are beautiful pieces

 By: AnthonyV : March 28th, 2015-13:56
While you're being offered the 5975G, the J to me really goes the best. Beautiful dial and it has that vintage feel. The case is absolutely phoenominal in the flesh and while I it does lack sub dials the whole thing works for me. I have many chromos both ...

I would choose the 5975G in a heartbeat, for several reasons. Oliver

You are very clear, thank you.

 By: dr.kol : March 28th, 2015-14:41
Would you like to specify a bit, please. I have also been thinking about EDJA's comments. Both are nice watches but those will not put me on fire. Patek has some nicer ones and still, I will buy only a limited amount of Pateks. Two this year. Okay, in the...

PP did a multiple-scale instrument with a twist. There was a time when people wanted to calculate speed (tachymeter), measuring distances (telemeter) and measuring pulse rate (pulsimeter) – nothing more, nothing less. Some may call it an oddity, but not m...

if you promise you will not tell anybody! Okay, I will send you PM. Without mentioning what I selected, you are free to comment it here. Best, Kari

That's absolutely ridiculous - I just have seen two 5575 on grey market

 By: EDJA : March 29th, 2015-08:23
you can easily find it on one of the web-sites ( don't want to mention it though). How it could be?!?! Given the number of production and it's rare how these basta@rds got them?! Sorry for bad words I have used here, but I'm really angry like Russian brow...

Hi EDJA, 5575 in grey market: well, we are also seeing

 By: GLau : March 29th, 2015-09:34
a double factory sealed brand new 5575 in the upcoming Sothebys auction in Hong Kong during early April. How did this happened??!! Guess either ADs playing games or large customers decide to profit from this situation. No matter what, Patek has previously...

5575

 By: jon_jon : March 29th, 2015-20:11
Many times Patek bids on these watches at the auction. I am not sure they will with the 5575. They are producing 1300 of these, which is a large number. I have seen the 5575 at an AD, while being held for another client. It is a very interesting watch. Ho...

hi watch-guy, your comment "unless released with the blessing of PP to test the market?"

 By: GLau : April 9th, 2015-09:48
is a thought provoking one !! It made me think of the twists, turns and suspense presented in a show like "24" !! LOL !!

hi watch-guy, I saw on the Sothebys site that the 5575 went for

 By: GLau : April 9th, 2015-09:59
HK$1,000,000 (US$128,000) including buyer's premium Irrespective, still a nice profit for someone, and congrats to all 5575 PuristS owners but not that PuristS will sell (so paper and theoretical profits only)

Priviet Russian Bear!

 By: dr.kol : March 29th, 2015-10:40
I saw the same a short while ago and the price was close to € 100k. It wasn't there anymore. I think there are two ways of seeing the situation: 1. To buy something in order to sell it for the sake of profit, is totally unacceptable. 2. However, the buyer...

Privet:)

 By: EDJA : March 29th, 2015-11:17
Kari, but in case 2, the AD should OPEN the plastic at the time of purchase, no? When I bought my 5131g I have immidetly asked to open the plastic envelope and put it on my hand.

The same has happened to me every time.

 By: dr.kol : March 29th, 2015-11:21
Furthermore, the AD has thrown the box to garbage but who would want it anyhow. I am sure that all these double sealed rare watches are coming either from the AD or bought by Mala Fide buyers. Best, Kari

5975! of course!!

 By: tempus : March 30th, 2015-15:00
5575 didn't t talk to me from the beginning and it does less every day. 5975 is a very nice watch, beautiful case and very special dial. I must consider that I would much more prefer this watch if it would have been executed with their hand-winding moveme...

The J version looks great!

 By: dr.kol : March 30th, 2015-15:27
I do not have any options: G is the only metal available. If there would have been all the options available, I would have chosen P with black dial. But we do not live, unfortunately, in a perfect world. Anyhow, I am quite happy with my decision. Perhaps ...

5575 every day...

and twice on Sundays! Much prefer the world time and love that dial over the 5975 chrono.

Hmmm...

would be my choice.I agree that 5975G is a bit cold..... What do u mean by my final watch? R u going to stop watch collecting !! Hope to see the picture of your new watch in the near future Best, Kari

Pass ;-)

 By: dirost : August 15th, 2015-02:07
You've got the 5110 P, which is the essence of the modern PP worldtime (as far as i'm concerned). For the 5975, it is a modern watch with a dated design. If you like vintage, buy a true vintage. My 2 cts.

I like my 5110P

 By: dr.kol : August 15th, 2015-02:44
even it is a bit small. But 5575 has a fantastic case and the moon circulating is very interesting. Naturally I can't really say what I think I was very exited about 5131G in the beginning but when wearing it is a bit difficult. The watch is quite colourf...

I like mine too ;-)

Even if it is not the one I wear most often... When the 5575 was launched, I was very interested because I found the association of these 2 complications quite original (not very logical but who cares ? Anyway, I like moon phase not for its utility but fo...
