Stolen watch database on Purist Forum would work against the rightful owner

Jun 01, 2009,12:40 PM

If sites like the Purist had a list of stolen watches, I think it would lower the chance of the watch every being returned to the owner. I may have passed hands many times and if the new owner happens to find out his watch is a stolen one, he will be careful not to ever send it in to Stern or Geneva for service. That person is not going to help out, they would lose the watch.

A database must be secret, just shared between all Authorized service centers. Simple as that, this would include anyplace a person could rightfully get Patek parts. Then many many stolen watches would be found as eventually they all would need some form of service.

As I have stated earlier, I think this should be the practice of all high end watch companies. It's just good customer service.

I'm sorry to hear about your stolen watch but to maintain a database would not be possible for any enthusiast site. It may seem like a simple task but think about what is needed to maintain such a database: correspond with the owner and cooperation with t...

Although....

I suggested it in a previous post, I see your reasoning However, a way should be found so we could assist fellow Purists when they are in a horrible situation Cheers

You are kiding right?

As Ming and DJE explained, its not possible. Besides why would Puristspro want to be involved in a criminal case? Sorry but if you let a stranger in your house and he steals your valuable watch and the police does nothing, than man up and accept the loss....

?????

I do not understand your post I did not say that Purists should be involved in a criminal case!! I certainly did not complain about "any brand inadequacies" Please read my post again- I am certain that you have misunderstood- at least I hope so....

Of course it becomes a criminal case as something was stolen. As DJE stated Puristspro is not the police nor the service center. What would you propose for them to do?

Again...

Hi, And as stated by DRMW we would not have the means to do it anyway! Each man his job, we're not the police, nor the service center! Cheers Dje
