The seal has no logic

May 29, 2009,18:43 PM

The seal has no logic, as everyone has already stated. They have their name on the dial, buckle, movement, case, its all over the place. That is their seal of quality.

In the long run, this move will hurt them as quality could fall and still the seal would be in place. If other brands are smart, they will use it against them in advertising. Now Patek is stuck as they can't go back. Having an outside stamp of quality is just good marketing period. Rolex doesn't need that COSC certificate, but they are smart to keep up with it. It's just something we have all grown to trust over the years and it shows they are willing to be inspected by a third party.

It's all about marketing and having your own seal is just not good marketing in my mind.

Hi all, just received the latest issue. There is an interview with Philippe Stern on the initiative behind the seal. Best, C

I've Read it!

If the most recent Patek Philippe magazine issue is the one with the microscope image of purple seed on the cover, I've read the Stern interview. Personally, I didn't gather any new information, as the of this forum have already mentioned and discussed ne...

Thanks for the headsup................

I received my PP magazine today. Will look forward to reading it.

I may now have doubts, but it is still exciting news...

Nonetheless I am now starting to wonder of the point of this new Seal's enactment exactly. There was no mention of the Seal being available to all, leading me to presuppose that PP is simply putting an official name to its quality and reliability? Of cour...

i agree this has been discussed at nauseum shuld it say at every forum. my idea is that patek went ahead and change the seal. ALL we can do is wait and see what happens. i still think it is the same thing as the 'CORONATION OF NAPOLEON'. What did it do no...

I totally agree.

No logic at all....just marketing arrogance. It has actually put me off a bit. In this aspect I prefer the Journe attitude of "my watches are accurate and highly finished enough for me - so I don't need to subscribe to any external services, seals or test...

There's always a logic

PP Seal

Personally, I don't care about the seal, either of them. What I care about is to see the Patek-Philippe mark on the dial.. and that the watch is performing the way a Patek should, the way that Antoine Patek and Adrien Philippe would want it to be..the bes...

Patek is losing their own grip ... ??

... I wonder if anyone have seen a Grand Seiko recently ?? Talk about a watch with NO seal .... its quality is just as fine as A.Lange, Patek or VC. Delivering high quality movements, great finishings, and a much lower price tag. Seal, what seal ??

It's not realistic to compare a Grand Seiko to a Patek

 By: Mostel : May 30th, 2009-18:53
I've owned at least one GS and while nice, there is no comparison to Patek and especially not Journe or Lange! IMHO! But I completely agree the seal is a misstep, better to have just abandoned the Geneva Seal and let the watches speak for themselves.

Agree with the consensus here

Seems unnecessary and blatantly self-serving. I always view Patek as above the need for a seal like this. In fact, I think it would have been more clever to have 'no' seal.. no COSC no Geneva seal, no patek, nothing. Just drop it, and if people ask, say "...
