Whatever you love on your wrist

Apr 10, 2014,10:07 AM

As I've previously posted, I bought a 5146 because I loved the look and feel, and it has proven itself to be durable enough to be my everyday watch. Whatever you decide, make sure its the one you will wear and enjoy the most, don't keep it locked up in a vault!! The greatest challenge is how gorgeous all of these watches are.

Help with my first Patek

 By: Joelsph : April 9th, 2014-19:54
Hi All, This is my first post on the forums! After a few visits to the local ADs, I've narrowed down my choices to the following pieces. Although they are quite different from one another, I feel that either one would make a great choice for my first Pate...

Welcome here, Joel. Difficult to choose for you, but, if it was me...

I would got for the 5960, since the annual calendar seems to be important for you, and this dial is superb. Best! Nicolas

Hi Nicholas, Thank you for your input. I will take this into consideration before a purchase is made!

Joelsph, welcome at PuristSPro!

It seems you prefer white metal, that is all I know so far. All the references have pro´s and con´s, but in general you won´t go wrong with any of those. The most important thing (at least to me) is how it feels on your wrist and which one makes you smile...

Hi Oliver, Thank you for the welcome message to the forums. I have tried all of the pieces on and I'm very pleased with the feel / appearance of all four. I'm going to take a friend to the AD next time to offer an additional opinion.

I will re-iterate what Oliver and Nicolas said...

......all of these models are very nice Pateks. You won't go wrong with any of them....however, it is absolutely crucial that you buy the one that makes you happiest when the watch is on your wrist. Between these models, for me it is the Regulator that wo...

I would go for a perpetual calendar

Over a 5960 P, as lovely it looks like, I would rather choose a 5140, 5159. Best Moritz

You will have to upgrade with an Annual Calendar

 By: Kyan : April 10th, 2014-05:10
To me, PP's annual calendar is just a marketing gimmick to boost more sales by creating a cheaper product below perpetual calendar watches. I wouldn't even bother to consider any of the above. In fact, I have got rid of most of my annual calendar pieces. ...

I disagree

Annual calendars have to be set 1 time per year. It takes 0.5 minutes. That means per 525,600 minutes, you have to spend 0.5 of them setting the piece as opposed to 0.0. Annual calendars have excellent readability for the most part, unlike the 5140. I don...

Thanks for the additional insight! I really like the 5960 with the blue dial, but I'm not a fan of the blue strap. Are there any other strap combinations that you have seen that work well with the blue dial?

I would recommend 5235 or 5960 because

... each of them has a clean and elegant dial design, which is important from my perspective 5235 is the first ever regulator for PP and contains a new movement with hacking seconds (a first for PP I believe). The design of the dial and colors are very at...

I own it. It is the most beautiful and classic of the bunch and I do SMILE whenever I have it on and look at it!! To me, its one of the sharpest looking models with the dial look and the visable movement. As others have said these choices are all what you...

That you wait until you find a watch that is the last thing you think of before going to sleep, and the first thing you think of when you wake up. For a week. Sincerely H.

Depends on who you are

Joel, I recently bought my first Patek as well. I'm in mid-30s, technology startup, casual office environment. I went with the Nautilus 5726 Annual Calendar as my first Patek because it's sporty but subtle. Last week, I bought the 5960P-015 (the blue one)...

NYCBrose, I also considered the 5726, but my friend has that model and I could not bring myself to buying the same piece as him. Did you end up keeping the blue strap on the 5960?

Hmm

 By: nycbrose : April 10th, 2014-23:50
I don't know anyone named Joel so I'm going to assume your friend isn't me =D I kept the blue strap, but I also have a black one. I have to say the blue is a little bit tacky, especially in sunlight.

four, I would select the 5170. I always try to think beyond what I like today and look forward to what would please me 10-20 years from now. There are a lot of folks who will buy a piece and in a few years, roll out and get something else until they final...

Which one do you love? Which one would you consider a marriage proposal with?

Imagine these Patek Philippe watches as four individuals. Which one do you love? Which one do you want to marry? Which one would you regret the most if it wasn't available? It seems like you're not in love with either one especially more than the other. S...

Joel, I am new to the site as well. I have owned a few Patek watches in my day. The 5146 is a solid watch and a good start in my opinion. Best of luck!

If you want a bit of sport, dressy and timlessness at the same time: go for the 5170. A white dial goes with virtually anything. Though I (also) have a weak spot for the 5960 with a blue dial because hell: look at it. Blue is the new black. Both are very ...
