My story with this reference is quite similar to yours, although I must say that your excellent posts and photography definitely served as encouragement. I too always loved the 5110P form the time I saw it in the shop window (and I was much younger than, and it was unaffordable for me). When I made the decision to purchase it years later, I did so by meeting the dealer in Miami (while he was there for a show, and I was at my vacation apartment for the week). I wanted to take possession of it at a special place, and I did so and a very famous, classic art deco hotel on Miami Beach. Like you, I remember the exchange well, and was so happy to have it, and to be able to study, appreciate and soak in the details of this beauty on my own time, without a shopkeeper's watchful eye or impatient hand. I remember most of all admiring the heft, and weight, which is extraordinary for a dress watch of this size. To me, there is nothing quite like a Patek in Platinum, the holiest of metals IMO. I have recently been considering as 3940, as I really think it is a great compliment to the 5110, but I will write more on that subject-- including which I would choose if I could only have one-- in the other thread that was posted to compare the too.
