Patek Philippe has shown over the decades that it has followed a unique direction, respecting evolutions, sometimes surprises that we take today for something normal but which make what the brand is today.
As usual, it isn't possible to please everybody, and people tend to forget that it was the same in the past: models that some liked and others that some didn't etc... This is what leading such a brand is about. Not only the present but having a view on the overall picture.
When dealing with Patek, it is not about show off but about details that make them unique. The cases are fantastic if we go behind their classical look and the dial craftmanship is something that I don't think another brand has mastered as well, if we take the last decades history.
They haven't created paterns because they are the current trend, they have always been providing them.
People originally don't go toward Patek vintage because it is written on the dial but because it brings much more than that when looking into details. We can always find something more interesting in terms of mechaniques for instance but there is a difference between making a one of a kind model and keeping developping a collection on the long run. Both are good for watchmaking but it is important to notice this imho.
The World Time references are a good collection subject but I must say that Calatravas are a good one too and I must say I like it too.
Thanks a lot for sharing, this is very educational, especially for people who don't know much about vintage.
Best, Mark
