I wanted a Nautilus...
Aug 27, 2014,04:37 AM
It is a long time I've been thinking about a Nautilus in my collection because this watch is so particular and doesn't look like anything else, a little bit like the inimitable 5110 P for instance. Far being the most expensive or complicated, but closed to be the most charming ; far being the most classical Patek, but plenty of personality ;-)
Yes but which one ?
Models first.
I tried the 5711, the purest but I found it boring after one week.
I tried the 5980, for me one of the most achieved steel chronograph. But the 2 chrono pushers brake a little bit the line of the case and I found it too heavy.
I tried the 5712, with its crazy dial. Thin, charming, but there is something everywhere and the dial has therefore less reflections under different lights because of the subdials
Now dial colors.
I know that a lot here love the blue dial, the "classic" color of Nautilus dial. Again, this dark grey blue is not my cup of tea and I much prefer the sunburst blue Patek dials.
The white dial ? Almost no reflection and no change of color under different lights.
Then strap or bracelet ?
Again, I know that the logic would be to choose the great steel bracelet, which is part of the watch. I didn't and took the croco strap. The watch gets not exclusively a sportswatch, but can also be worn as a dressed one. I also appreciate that the croco strap underlines the brushed and polished case.
So I have chosen the 5726 ; it is fun for me to take a bath in the swimming pool or in the sea with a QA and moon phase ;-)
By the way, I've putted on the composite strap and It works quite well in water. The only obligation is to wash it after bath...
This gray dial has fantastic reflections under light and goes to very light to dark grey and always changes. His relative thickness (> 11 mm) compared to the 5711 makes you feel that you have a watch at the wrist, without being too heavy.
Here is a wrstshot with the composite strap :
