I tried to give some examples of a correct dial to show something was amiss
Jun 09, 2015,22:48 PM
I was looking for others to join in the conversation. We are all here to learn. The original poster was looking for some thoughts and was not pretending otherwise. So as with a puzzle we draw attention to the missing parts and then hope that people go through the processing of comparing what is correct with what has never been seen. If we just yell fake and not help people to understand the process we are not being helpful. But yes if there is a danger nd someone is about to buy we would have to warn them right away rather that the exercise of exploring.
Thanks for your thoughts.

The bakelite insert seems odd. The depth and color both bother me. E

Case back should have a 58 dated case back. Now the movement I can't really say anything. The rest is a little hard based on the pictures. But the puzzle comes together as you add color. Bill
we are splitting hairs between 57/58

But we are still missing a little the parameters. The dial is hard to see in these examples and the crown has an odd shape. But that is not to say not good. If the case back is 1959 / 60 too late and then you start to see is there some assembly. But again...
The crown is a modern replacement..

Hello Bill I appreciate your thoughts, and your insight into the many details of these vintage timepieces. Kind regards Anthony
It is hard to speculate without seeing the watch in person.

I have seen a watch in the same serial range and the crown was different. Now that is not to say this one is wrong. It could have been assembled later or it could have had a dial replaced by Rolex. It is hard to speculate. But as we have said previously h...

Borrowed this picture from Stefano who always is a great resource for the Rolex GMT. Observe the Rolex crown in this example and the hands. Just as a way for you who has the watch in your hand to look for similarities. Bill Photo credit : Stefano Mazzario...

dial and insert are obviously blatant fakes. case ( if genuine ) is from the beginning of 1958.
