Fogive me JLC, I have sinned....

Hi all,

Recently I've been hunting around for a 'power reserve' piece. Manual or automatic - preferably manual. Of course, the top of the list is the Reverso 8 Days. The PG version was georgous on your wrist. And of course the JLC Perp 8 Days (but its too similiar to my Grande Reveil).

Of course, there's the Panerai Manifactura.... but Panerais for is a bit of a 'been there, done that'. Eventhough the Radiomir 8 days with the JLC caliber was on my hit list. Being frank, I've had several Pams in my life time and i've sort of had enough of the 'cult', if you know what i mean.

But.... and this is a big a big but.... the IWC Portugese 7 Days, was also on the list. But the downfall is that it is not a manual wind. And plus, with the shear 42.3mm case, you'd expect it to weigh a bit more.

But for some reason, maybe my last purchase was a JLC Grande Reveil, the IWC stole the show.

To be honest with you, I'm half heartedly regretting not getting Reverso 8 Days.

A lot of issues made the Portugese 7 Days not as refined as the Reverso (I know i'm merely comparing apples and pears). Firstly, the winding - the Reverso winds like a beauty. The Portugese reminds me of a pocketwatch, very remeniscent of a Pam base.... Power Reserve wise - JLC kicks ass by have one more day. The weight, JLC is much more substantial.

But what really made me commit a JLC sin was the IWC's blue hands and blue gator strap. and of course the minimalism of the dial. and the very 'mechanical' visual language of the Pellaton movement.
