update

Just to give an update. My AD says my watch needs a complete overhaul and they can do it for just less than 2k CAD. I ask them to send it to Patek and so I guess I'll see what Patek says - my AD says they will send it to Geneva. (My watch did show signs of slowing down).

question on routine service

 By: pfslai : September 30th, 2018-11:05
Hello I brought my 5712 back to my AD for routine service since it's around 6 yr old. I was informed they may be able to service it locally instead of sending it back to patek. They are an AD but I don't think they are an authorized service center. Since ...

Hi Paul, As long as you can confirm it is a Patek ...

here if they r listed or not If not then stick to factory service ,obviously u don t want to mess a fifty grand watch with aftermarket parts, seals, and unpro work done.

I would never let an AD service a watch I cared about.

Too many horror stories. Either have a good relationship with an independant watchmaker you know well and trust, or have the brand do it (but take many pictures ahead to prove the damage they do is their fault!). Not kidding about the last part, be safe.

I think if it is done at a Patek service center it’s fine..

Patek has a number of service centers operated by Patek. I got a tour of the service center in Munich this spring. Watches up to a certain level are repaired at Patek service centers. I can not give you the ecact definition, but roughly it is only some gr...

Routine Service...... STOP!

At the risk of opening an old can of worms.... Unless there is something wrong with it: the timekeeping; reduction in balance wheel amplitude; winding weight freedom; or power reserve do not have it serviced. Velociphile

Agree. [nt]

Well the 5712 was slowing down just a touch. I see what the dealer says first. I contact Patek and basically they just said to talk to the dealer first. thanks everyone will keep you all posted Paul

Mine is slowing down as well, but still extending the service period

As long as you take your watch to a Patek AD (you can check it on Patek's website), they should give you the proper guidance. And as others said, Patek has different Authorised Service Centers that should service your watch to Patek's quality level. That'...

No

At six years, if the watch is running perfectly, I would not send it in for routine service. Unless something starts to happen, I would stretch out to 10 years. No matter who works on the watch, it may not work as well after a full service. Just a fact of...
