How about this for a thought experiment....

So, 70 years since the issue of a Gondolo tonneau watch - okay, different metal for the case, but work with me on this one.

The original price (in 1927) was approximately a years salary for the average person (man) in Brazil.  Hence the club.  Todays average wage for Brazil is a little under $11000 (US).  This MIGHT illustrate a number of possible forces:

- the devaluation of the Brazilian currency against the Swiss
- the differences in inflation between the two countries over the 70 years
- the increased (monetary) value of holding a Patek watch
- the problem of using averages to illustrate a point!
- the problem with picking two arbitrary points in time to compare the movement in the price of a particular item.

Fabulous watch though - but could not help thinking that I would willingly pay $11000 for such a piece; as I bet would everyone here. smile

Anyone want to start a club? smile

Ill go now!
